I Can Do It, LLC Update: I Can Do It, LLC has officially closed. We will maintain this page as way to provide advice

Does anyone have a recommendation for a “maid service” in Knoxville? We are looking for a weekly cleaning to help us keep up. Could be a business or an individual. Reputation and quality are what matters.

A NEW DAY.

After a few years of I Can Do It, LLC being shut down (mostly due to COVID) and avoiding social media, we are reopening the I Can Do It Instagram account. I Can Do It will no longer be a handyman business. It is no longer a LLC, no longer licensed, no longer insured. We will be promoting things that I have found useful over the years to help people get through life. They may be home improvement related. They may be related to having a home office. They may be related to traveling for business or leisure purposes. I may even post something totally off the wall. It will always be something I have evaluated and determined not to be complete junk. And yes, for full disclosure, there will be affiliate links, because who doesn't need a little extra income?

This post is just a "heads up" of what is to come. I hope to create a post at least once a week (posted on both facebook and instagram), probably on my day off from the post office, which rotates.

I've been getting several people looking at my page lately, so I thought I would post an update. I am still working fulltime as a City Carrier at the US Postal Service and the hours are ridiculous. Contributing factors are a continued increase in package volume due to COVID online shopping, employees getting COVID, and an insufficient number of new hires who are then not willing to work 6-7 days a week 10-14 hours a day and quit.

If you know someone who needs work, starting pay is around $19/hr and although the job description sounds part-time, it is not and there is no danger of hours being cut to under 40/wk any time soon.

So...I do not have time to take on any handyman jobs at this point, not even workshop projects. I also cannot recommend anyone else as the stories I get from my former customers tell a grim tale of unfinished work and no-shows. Sorry.

I wish you all the best with your needs/projects and will try to update here more often.

I am probably going to have to hire someone to do some work on my own house soon and will post a review of their work.

If you haven't done it already, now is the time to start preparing for your 2021 garden in East TN. We are going to have random days of nice weather like today that make it a joy to be outside.

Prepare the soil in the manner of your choosing - options include building/repairing raised beds, adding compost, tilling in cover crops if you planted them last fall, etc.

Clean out your rain gutters, if like me you didn't get to it yet, so that there aren't any seeds in there to sprout and grow trees. Use the leaves in your compost. They probably have already started decomposing.

Start seeds indoors for things like tomatoes and peppers. They will require a seed starting heat mat or some other way of keeping the soil warm. Otherwise the seeds will just rot and not sprout. Keep in mind you will need to transplant to larger containers as they grow (more space) before it gets warm enough to plant them outside. Light may also be a factor since we will surely have many cloudy winter days yet. You can buy expensive grow lights, but I use LED shop lights. Look on the packaging for at least 5000K color spectrum. 6000K or 6500K is even better, but harder to find and the price goes up. Some manufacturers use Color Rendering Index (CRI) instead of Kelvin (K). You woul want a CRI of 95 or above.

Brassica like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, chinese cabbage, bok choy can all go in the ground now, as well as onions. These are all selling like hotcakes at Knoxville Seed (https://knoxseed.com/), Stanley's Greenhouse (http://www.stanleysgreenhouse.com/) and other locally owned garden centers.

Get dirty and have fun this week.
