Meet the Monarch Butterfly

Known for its bold orange and black wings, the Monarch is famous for its multi-generational migration of thousands of miles to Mexico each fall. Monarchs depend entirely on milkweed because It's the only place females lay eggs and the only food their caterpillars eat. Adults feed on nectar from a range of native flowers. To support them, plant milkweed alongside nectar-rich perennials, skip the pesticides, and keep blooms going from spring through fall!

Say hello to the Yellow Coneflower (Ratibida pinnata)!
This tough, native beauty thrives in dry prairies and savannas. It's easy to spot with its coarse, stiff leaves and showy yellow blooms. Pollinators can't get enough of it! Yellow Coneflower grows and transplants easily, handles drought very well. Plant it in full sun to partial shade with medium to dry soil, and you'll see blooms from July through September.

✨Plant Spotlight✨

You know her, you love her... Meadow Blazing Star!

This gorgeous native plant is a staple in any pollinator garden. The Meadow Blazing Star is the ultimate nectar plant for butterflies, various pollinators, hummingbirds, AND the late season seeds are popular with Goldfinches! The Meadow Blazing Star can grow up to 5' tall when planted in rich soils, in which case you may want to stake the plants. This variety is somewhat tolerant of dry soils, but is best planted in areas that have consistently medium soil moisture and fertility. It tolerates summer heat and humidity, but avoid planting it in soils that stay wet in the winter.
