Another amazing review for us! Thank you!

"JW Roofing, LLC did an amazing job on my grandmothers home. They did an amazing job on communication, explaining every detail to her. The work was A+, we could not have asked for a more professional company to take on this task."

Todays topic - Elements of Design

Gable Wall - The triangular parts of the home extending from the eaves to the peak of the roof

Ridge - The highest point or peak of the roof

Centerline of Ridge - The wall or rafter underneath the roofs' edge where a gable ends

Valley - The areas where two sections meet and slop downward

Eaves - The edges that hang over the homes' exterior walls

Hip - A high point where two roof sections meet

Abutment - A vertical area that meets the roof, such as a wall or chimney

Dormers - The sections of the home protruding from the roof. They are designed to bring natural light into an attic or top floor space.

Getting to know your roof - Part 1 - Components

* Rafters - These are like a skeleton frame for your roof. The wood or metal slats inside your home support both the sheathing and the shingles.

* Sheathing - This is also known as decking. It attaches to the rafters and is considered the roof's "ground floor"

* Underlayment - This material is paper like, but water resistant and is placed over your decking to protect the home from the elements.

* Shingles - Made from a variety of materials and protects from the weather.

* Flashing - Typically this is sheet metal, it's purpose is to prevent water damage by sealing joints on the roof where they change direction

* Trim - This is installed to protect the seams of the roof's hip or ridge

* Drainage - Drainage is needed because melting snow and rain water need some place to go.

Tomorrow we look at Elements of Design!
