Winter Storm Update #4: Impactful Winter Storm Wednesday Morning into Wednesday Night
[7am: 2/11/25] - Winter storm watches will be upgraded to winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories as the day goes on across northern Illinois. These will go into effect tomorrow morning and will expire late Wednesday night. Snow will start off light and scattered tomorrow morning, light snow/flurries will be likely for your morning commute on Wednesday. Flurries will transition to steady snow by midday with steady snow, heavy at times, falling Wednesday afternoon and early evening. The worst conditions for travel will be 12pm through 7pm on Wednesday. Snow will quickly transition from steady snow to flurries Wednesday evening as dry air moves in on the back side and will quickly end the accumulations. Light snow/flurries will continue into early Thursday morning, and some lake enhancement is possible across northeast Illinois near the lake, confidence that adds much to whatever falls during the day on Wednesday is low. With dry air moving in on the backside, that has reduced overall totals a little. Still, widespread 3-7 inches is expected across northern Illinois, lightest south of I-80 where the dry air will be most noticeable, and heaviest north of I-88 where snowfall fall for a longer duration Wednesday evening. This snow will be light and fluffy, and because of that some blowing and drifting may occur Wednesday evening into Thursday morning as winds gust up to 30-35 mph on the backside of this storm. Wednesday and Thursday morning commutes should be ok, Wednesday evening commutes will be heavily impacted by falling snow.
