Miner Improvements Inc. Miner Improvements Inc. is an exterior design company specializing in roofing, siding, windows, doors, and decking. He was honorably discharged in 1982.

We work on both commercials and residential projects. Tom Miner, President of Miner Improvements Inc, has been around the contracting business as long as he can remember. His father was a finish carpenter and Tom watched and learned some of the trade from his Dad. He graduated from Sandy Creek Central School in 1979. After his high school graduation, Tom served 4 years in the United States Marine

Corps. He worked in Radio Communications and was a forward observer. While serving he traveled all over the world including Israel, Africa, England, the Virgins Island and the Arctic Circle to mention a few. Tom began his construction career in 1983 at Nine Mile Nuclear Plant erecting all types of scaffolding in the turbine building so the construction workers could do their job safely. After working at Nine Mile, Tom worked in the Syracuse area for a couple of years. He was employed as a professional painter, carpenter and roofer. In 1985 Tom moved to Texas and was employed doing drywall, framing and painting in new construction there, as well as a maintenance worker at an apartment complex doing service calls and pool maintenance. In 1986, being young and wanting to get the experience of a different line of work he traveled to Florida. While there he installed vinyl siding over all types of exteriors including block, wood and metal substructures. He also installed insulation, windows and roof-overs. He was employed by Sears and enjoyed his work traveling throughout the state for the company. In 1988 Tom returned to his hometown and created his own company, Exterior Design Construction, Lacona, NY. He subcontracted for Sears and he and his crew traveled throughout NY, MA and CT doing vinyl siding, trim, windows and roofs. He became a member of the Carpenters Union in Syracuse and Watertown in 1989. Working as a union carpenter he built steel studs, hung drywall and installed batt insulation on v***r barrier ceilings while employed at the Fort Drum expansion. In 1991 Tom moved to Mountain Home, Idaho. His first job he spent 9 months on renovations at Mtn. Home Air force Base putting up drywall and painting and preparing floors for ceramic tiles. He continued to work for contracting companies and in 1993 he formed his own company called “Vinyl is Final”. His company renovated the exteriors of many residential homes in the Mtn. Home area; he also became involved with subcontracting on commercial ventures. His company kept busy on several large projects, installing vinyl siding, windows, soffits and fascia on various apartment complexes and Military Housing. In 1994 he entered into a business with his brother Kevin and they created Miner Brothers Construction. They stayed in the Mtn. Home area and continued to work together. They worked on more commercial projects involving several Super 8’s, Best Westerns and Shiloh Inns. Contracting with the Development Group, Inc., they installed vinyl siding, soffits and fascia at assisted living and retirement facilities in Washington, Nevada, Montana, Idaho as well as several sites in Oregon. Tom returned to Lacona in 2003 and began doing the same work that he had been doing since entering the business. After the death of Tom’s father, his mother Jean needed to keep busy and was interested in what her son had learned from his father. She became involved with the company in 2005, and together they became Jean Miner Contracting. Miner Improvements has been busy working the last several years in Central New York on remodeling projects for such companies as McClurg Associates, Conifer Realty and Two Plus Four Construction and Management. The company has been also doing new construction projects with Norstar Building Corp., Ryan Homes and Harrienger Construction as well as several others. The business was incorporated in 2009 under the current name of Miner Improvements Inc.
