Super satisfying cob blasting video! 🌽

Similiar to sandblasting, corn cob blasting is an eco-friendly version that tends to be safer overall for both humans and the environment. The dry and hardened part of the corn cob is ground up and put inside of a media blaster. The blast removes old stain and impurities on the wood. Because of the material, it is also gentler on the surface than sandblasting. It can be used to restore furniture, too!

As autumn rolls in and the wind gets a little bit chillier, log homes feel even cozier. But what’s your favorite type of log home to stay in? Whether it’s your own home or a rustic getaway, if you had an unlimited budget, what would you rather pick? 👇

1. A small, rustic cabin built in the late 19th century, tucked deep in the woods, with classic fixtures and a cozy hearth for warmth 🏡🌲

2. A grandiose log home near a private lake, with all kinds of cool hunting & fishing gear 🏞️ 🦌🎣

3. A modern log home with all the convenience, still tucked away from the city, but only minutes away from a fun and historic downtown experience. 🏛️🌲

There's no wrong answer—we'd love to hear what you think! 😁

A post for new log home owners, or maybe ones that just want to know more about their own home. What is chinking on a log home/log cabin?

This is a question we occasionally get when customers call in, so we decided to explain in more detail exactly what it is!

Check out the slides to learn the meaning and history of chinking, and how exactly it protects your home from the elements.

Log home owners might find this one super interesting 🏡 We usually think of stain color as just a reason to make your home look pretty... that isn't wrong, but it's not the full story. Pigmented stain goes further than that, protecting your home in seemingly unexpected ways. Check out Mountain Living's article on more about this. We loved reading it! 😄

Transforming this home into a shade cooler (literally!) 👀

Most people think of log homes as only being "log-colored." Brown, warm-toned; some richly colored and shiny, some others weathered and historical. But there are actually many interesting shades of stain out there, with no need for a thick, crumbly layer of exterior paint that won't last the seasons.

What are copper caps? And why do log home owners need them? You might think of these for closing off electrical wires or copper pipes—but did you know that the protection extends to keeping your wooden posts in good shape (and, by extension, your log home's deck?)

The copper surface shields the most vulnerable part of the post away from insects, the weather, and excessive water, further preventing log rot, excessive log checking (cracking), and infestations from reaching your wood posts. Unlike log siding & log walls which are faced horizontally, deck posts are faced vertically towards the sky, leaving the tail end facing the brutality of the elements even more than your "normal" logs.

If your home's wood or log posts needs copper caps, we've got you. 💪 We install order & install copper caps so that you don't have to do the hard part.

When your log home needs help, what do you do? If you can’t repair them yourself, you’ll need to choose a contractor for that work. But how do you choose the right contractor, with repairs that will stand the test of time, and not leave with a partially completed job?

Check out our blog post from last year about how you can pick a contractor with confidence.

Picking the right contractor to work on your log home is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Making that decision based on price alone may not lead to the best outcome. Choosing someon…
