Construction is underway at Jefferson Market & Deli on Jefferson Boulevard in North Lafayette.

The project, which qualifies for historic tax credits, transforms and adaptively reuses an existing building into a neighborhood market and deli. The design approach builds upon the character of the existing structure while introducing the architectural, functional, and site improvements necessary for its new use.

As construction progresses, the project is beginning to reveal the relationship between the existing building and the new design elements.

We look forward to sharing the project's progress as it continues to take shape.

What happens when a fire station is code-compliant—but still fails when it matters most?

That's the question Jay Chase, AIA, NCARB, Principal at Chase Marshall Architects, addresses in his July 2026 Firehouse Magazine "Station" column, "Designing Firehouse Resilience from the Foundation Up." Drawing on more than 35 years of experience designing resilient fire stations across the Gulf South, Jay breaks down why real resilience has to be designed in from the foundation up—not bolted on after the fact.
