A closer look inside the former Sunset High School, now the newly rehabilitated École Saint-Landry

Every finish was thoughtfully selected to honor the building’s history while introducing clean, modern design elements. This space was designed with a full potential learning environment in mind.

We were thrilled to welcome such a great crowd to the Open House at École Saint-Landry’s new upper campus on February 21st.
It was an honor to work on the rehabilitation of the historic Sunset High School in Sunset, LA. The event gave families and community members a chance to tour classrooms and learn more about the growing French immersion school.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to support the education in our community— the future is bright at École Saint-Landry!

In Opelousas, the old federal building is a fantastic example of Richardsonian Romanesque style architecture. H.H. Richardson, originally from Louisiana, was known for the use of tripartite division and polychromatic materials. Listen along as Stephen explains the architecture behind this historic building.

The new Portrait Lounge at Hotel Klaus connects to an event space that will be available to rent for private events. This space was formerly the warehouse portion of Klaus Mercantile, a general store. We’ve restored the original doorway, which had been closed up, and left the original whitewash on the ceiling lumber from 1909.

The newly opened Portrait Lounge at Hotel Klaus is located in what was a general store in the 1860s. The space blends Victorian era influences with modern pieces, similar to the design throughout the rest of Hotel Klaus. Two walls are filled with original portraits from St. Landry Parish and elsewhere, giving The Portrait Lounge its name and additional history and charm.

Follow along to learn more about the thoughtful design behind this space.

Happy Thanksgiving from SO Studio Architecture. As we gather around the table and reflect on what we’re thankful for, we’re reminded of the opportunities we get to design spaces that positively affect the way people live, work, and play.

These photos are of a historic preservation projected completed at the Sonnier residence, located in Bendel Gardens in Lafayette, Louisiana. The property sits on the Vermilion River. We were able to restore and refinish the home’s original Terrazzo floors and original cabinets. The unique breakfast table lighting fixture was found in the attic and restored. Taking inspiration from the lighting fixture, we chose wall paper and a rug with striated lines to create cohesion throughout the room.
