We operate a family-built haunted house for kids and teens in Tippecanoe County to enjoy during Halloween. “It all started when Samantha was seven,” says William Shelton, cryptmaster. He and Karla had taken her to the Jefferson High School “First Edition” Haunted House at the fairgrounds, where she was amazed (and not a bit scared) by the effects, engineering and production. She said she’d love to

build one, and so the next year the Spooky Sheltons haunted graveyard and mausoleum came to be. The haunted house is now in its fifth year, and every year Samantha and her younger sister Alexandra help and learn while it is built. Construction begins in August with the closing of the garage for clearing, mapping and planning. Production ramps up until October, when William is spending every weekend (and quite a few weekdays) putting it all together. Sam and Alex, who both attend Indiana Connections Academy, help out on the weekends and after school.
