5 Tips to Conserve Water & Lower Your Monthly Bill
1. Fix any water leaks: just one drip a minute adds up to 34 gallons of water a day wasted. Check around the house for minor leaks. For example, running toilets, and dripping hose bibs or faucets are common culprits.
2. Save water w/ every flush: fill up a water bottle or two and place them inside the toilets tank. This will take up space and raise the water level without requiring as much water to fill.
3. Don’t cut the grass too short: when grass is cut short the roots become more exposed to the sun, causing the grass to burn up easier. Leaving your grass a little longer will provide shade against harmful UV rays. Ultimately, you won’t have to water it as much to keep it green.
4. Use your dishwasher: according to the EPA, using a dishwasher is more efficient than washing the dishes by hand. A dishwasher uses 4-6 gallons of water per cycle, while on average washing dishes by hand uses as much as 20 gallons of water.
5. Be strategic when watering the lawn: The hotter the temperature when you water the lawn, the more that gets evaporated into the air. This requires more water overall to keep your lawn looking green. A better idea, water early in the morning or later in the evening when the temperature is lower.
