Picture it.. Disney-MGM Studios.. 1989. For those who rode the Studio Backlot Tour (Catastrophe Canyon), you might remember Residential Street. This street showcased exterior sets of homes used in various movies and TV shows, such as 'Ernest Saves Christmas', 'Splash, Too', 'Adventures In Wonderland', and 'The Golden Girls'.
At the start of every episode of The Golden Girls from 1988-1992, there is a shot of the iconic home's exterior taken from the Studio Backlot Tour. Yes, 1988, even though the Disney-MGM Studios opened in 1989. There were two locations for this shot. The original house exterior used during the early seasons of The Golden Girls (from 1985) was in Los Angeles. During the later seasons, Residential Street at the Disney-MGM Studios received a replica of that original exterior, and filming of that facade began. In 2003, Residential Street disappeared to make way for the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show attraction. According to How Bowers (), the location of The Golden Girls set sits between Ronto Roasters and Docking Bay 7 in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
So the next time you are on your way to feast on some Endorian Fried Chicken Tip Yip, you will find yourself at the original location of The Golden Girls exterior set from Residential Street at the Disney-MGM Studios!
