Good day Everyone,
I wanted to send out a short post about your indoor unit's fan. Everyone knows the importance of keeping your evaporator coil clean, but the fan is no different. Not only can bacteria, dust, and mold grow on the fan housing, but your air conditioning unit efficiency can be severely hampered. According to Penn State, dirty fan blades and housing can result in a reduction in operating efficiency up to 30 to 50%. This reduced air flow could lead to pockets of stagnant air, reduced cooling or heating capacity, higher energy costs, and higher repair bills. Air cooled fan motors with less air flowing across them could overheat. This could lead to a failure of your fan motor.
While the information I present tends to illustrate some worst case scenarios, even less severe scenarios can add up over time. I like to post these tidbits for educational purposes. Knowledge is power.

UV lights - are they worth it?
Here are just a few things the internet has to say about UV lights.
* They can prevent/reverse microbial buildup on filters, coils, drain pans, and ductwork. This will keep your system clean which will lead to better air circulation. Better air circulation keeps your system working efficiently, and an efficient system cost less to operate.
* UV lights can eliminate odors by killing microbes, pathogens, and bacteria that can build up in your ductwork.
* UV lights can eliminate airborne pollutants such as volatile organic compounds(VOCs) and sprays from chemical cleaners which makes your air safer to breathe.
* UV lighting can also inactivate allergens such as dust mites, pollen , and mold spores.

Today I would like to talk about the importance of a clean evaporator coil. There are several benefits to keeping your air conditioner's evaporator coil clean.
The primary functions of your evaporator coil is to transfer heat and dehumidify your home. If your coils are dirty, your air conditioner cannot do this very efficiently which requires longer run times. With air conditioners comprising more than 40% of a home's electrical consumption, air conditioner efficiency is a top priority for all households. Not only is saving money a priority, but also your air conditioners ability to reach the desired set point for your home is a priority. A dirty unit may not be able to cool your home to your desired temperature on hot and humid days.
Besides the comfort and money saving benefits of a clean air conditioner, there are health benefits to be gained by keeping your air conditioner clean. Evaporator coils are a perfect breeding ground for mold, mildew, and other bacteria. Good morning Everyone,
Today I would like to discuss the importance of an annual air conditioning maintenance program.
According to an article in ACHR(air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration) news, a dirty condenser coil can increase operating costs by as much as 37% due to lower efficiency of a dirty coil and extended run time. This extended run time and harsher working environment will also affect your air conditioner's lifespan.
An example provided in the article stated a 4 ton unit with a 6 month cooling season could have an additional cost of $248 in one cooling season. In areas where the cooling season is longer or energy costs are higher, this additional cost could be higher.
Not only will cost increase with a dirty coil, but also cooling capacity could be reduced by up to 30%. That 4 ton system mentioned earlier would only deliver 2.8 tons of cooling capacity. On those hottest days when you need every bit of capacity, your unit will not be able to keep up.
While this may be more of a worst case scenario, it provides actual numbers of what could happen to your air conditioner.
