Matthees Tree Care LLC We are a forestry & land management company servicing all of NW Minnesota!

I got started while in college mowing lawns and doing odd landscaping jobs for extra income. Those first few years was where I found a love for working outdoors and helping people improve their landscapes. But cutting grass left something to be desired... While attending classes at NDSU I wound up taking a tree identification course and that was what sparked my interest in trees and taking care of them. The next year NDSU offered a tree climbing class, along with several other tree care courses and the following summer I interned at the Davey Tree Expert Company in Eden Prairie, MN. While at Davey, I was exposed to the world of arborists and commercial/residential tree care. It was a wonderful experience but living in the "big city" wasn't something that I really enjoyed. So the next summer I decided to begin working in the Lakes area around Detroit Lakes, MN along with the Fargo-Moorhead area offering tree care services. It has been interesting to say the least but I enjoy the challenges and enjoy helping people with their trees!

First step in buckthorn destruction: get it manageable!

If you can’t even walk through your woods the mulcher is the fastest way to knock the plants down and chew them up so you can begin actually mowing & stump/sprout spraying the buckthorn.

Very cool green ash that we uncovered on this hunting land. That big bent limb points due North which is kind of interesting. It could be a Native guide tree from way back when or could just be a weird limb. Either way, a very neat old tree.

We are getting down to the wire on getting hunting land prep done for the 2026 season but there’s still a few weeks left! If you have some last minute projects reach out at 701-212-2433. We can do trail maintenance, clear food plot areas and maintain or put shooting lanes in!

This was a one day job cleaning up old tornado blowdown and very thick brush. The landowners can put their chainsaws away for a while!

Quick little job opening up the view of the water for this property. The Fecon on the 299 reduces weeks or days of work clearing brush or small trees into a few hours.
