A key objective in establishing a home food forest is to achieve a continuous yield of ripe fruit throughout the year. As one seasonal fruit source concludes, another begins, ensuring a constant supply. Currently, mulberries are ending their season, while Barbados cherries and guavas are at their peak ripeness. Figs, serbet berries, logan fruit, and jujubes will follow in succession, with the latter ripening at the end of summer. Pomegranates will start ripening thereafter, followed by citrus fruits, thereby restarting the annual cycle. This staggered ripening schedule enables harvesting fruit in my backyard every month, complemented by a separate garden bed featuring a diverse array of vegetables that yield produce all season long.
