Here is a quick look at our recent Middle Glenn project in Lake Highlands. Our clients already had a design drawn and turned to us implement it. New colored concrete patio, 48" planters made of 1/2" steel and some custom cattle panel trellis' create a welcoming, usable outdoor living space. A black Tejas gravel seating area with firepit provides a more intimate area for guests to gather, converse, warm by the fire and still be able to see the TV on the patio. A cedar AC enclosure with 6" cap hides the AC units while providing a place to rest drinks and plates.

Landscape planting consists of Oklahoma red buds, 'Brake lights' red yucca, Mexican feather grass, pale leaf yucca, Angelina sedum, assorted perennials including Catmint, salvia, and black foot daisy. A mix of small and medium Salt and Pepper river rock in place of mulch provides a contrast against the plants while preventing excited pups from digging in the beds.

A few plants including, 'Arbequina' olive trees and clematis, remain to be planted once they are available later this spring.

Subgrade french drainage and grading are being done on our event venue project in McKinney, Texas today. Next up is synthetic turf and landscape planting. Stay tuned! It’s going to be a unique space!

Here is a look back at our Elmcrest project in Lake Highlands. These homeowners had completed an interior update and renovation a few years ago and were ready to tackle the front yard. They wanted to keep as much lawn as possible for the kids to play on while also creating a seating area for furniture and a fire pit.

The original boulder retaining wall was dated and failing in places. We built a new wall with Oklahoma Ledgestone, this time incorporating stairs for access to the upper seating area that is shared with grandma's house next door. Native shade garden landscape planting completed this area.

The house sits on a large, sloping, treed lot typical of this area of Lake Highlands. This lot falls naturally towards the house with the structure sitting several feet below the street. This presented several unique challenges when designing the seating area as we had to be mindful not to negatively impact drainage while creating something that would be easy for guests of all ages to access.

We settled on a two-tiered, sunken seating area using tapered and non-tapered pieces of corten steel. The top piece follows the grade of the lawn, meeting the retaining wall on one end and the front entry sidewalk on the other. A gravel band extends the front entryway landing then steps down to a stair then finally into the seating area. This creates the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine while chatting with the neighbors and watching the kids play on the lawn.

Here is a quick look back at a landscape renovation we recently completed for some returning clients in big Forest Hills. We did an extensive grading and drainage project for these homeowners in the early summer of 2020. As we completed that, they mentioned they would be reaching out to us about a front landscape renovation they were wanting to do in the next year. The February deep freeze expedited that process as they lost almost all their landscape planting and knew that local landscape companies were about to be inundated with requests for landscape enhancements and renovations. In fact, there was still snow on the ground during our initial meeting of the design phase!
These clients had a very specific taste and vision of what they wanted to see in their new landscape. The original design we presented was very modern and cannibalized too much lawn. So we went back to the drawing board with this input and created their current landscape. One of the caveats they shared with us was a desire to win "Yard of the Month" from their neighborhood association as a result of this project.
We feel we delivered AND they got their yard of the month sign!
