Sometimes brand new guns have peculiar rust in areas that dont make sense. Like why are small little dots of rust in an area that is usually not exposed to moisture. Well, here is what I think happened with this one.
A factory weapon is worked on after leaving the manufacturing line, say for an engraving or etching. The barrel was removed in the process. Where was the barrel when the metal was worked on. Probably close by. That untreated metal landed on the barrel and corroded. But never fear. I got it back ship shape.

Deputy Bill Hardin began his law enforcement career with the Fort Worth Police Department and later moved to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office before becoming a reserve deputy for the Johnson County Sheriff's Office — a role he held until his passing at 99 years old. Johnson County Sheriff Adam King confirmed that Hardin served a total of 75 years in law enforcement, believed to be the longest tenure of any officer in the United States, and possibly the world. He was just two weeks away from his 100th birthday. His career spanned an era from the gangster days of Jacksboro Highway, where he worked patrol during some of north Fort Worth's most turbulent years, all the way through the modern era of community policing. He served more than 20 years as a warrant officer in the U.S. Army Reserves, was a narcotics investigator, trained generations of detectives, and even had an entire wall of the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum dedicated to his life's work.

His colleagues remembered him not only for the records he set, but for the man he was — someone who, according to those who worked beside him, greeted everyone with the same warm smile, trained rookies with patience, and never stopped finding something new to learn on the job. FWPD Captain Robin Krouse, who interviewed Hardin just weeks before his passing, said simply: "I felt like I had just started yesterday." Former detective Charles Goodwin, mentored by Hardin in narcotics, recalled that after 75 years, Hardin still radiated the quiet confidence that only comes from decades of hard-won experience.

What makes Bill Hardin's legacy extraordinary is not just the number of years he served, but the sheer range of eras he bridged — from an age of street-level policing in a rough post-war Texas city, to working alongside a new generation of officers who grew up knowing nothing but the modern badge. Law enforcement runs deep in his family: his brother, son, daughter, and nephew all followed him into service. A Texas State Legislature resolution was prepared in his honor — a tribute that, heartbreakingly, never reached him in person.
