Big project. Tight window. Successful weekend ex*****on.

This past weekend, the B&B Mechanical Inc. team completed a major cooling tower replacement at a medical facility in San Diego.

During routine maintenance, the existing cooling tower was found to be significantly deteriorated and beyond the point where continued repairs made financial sense. With HVAC reliability especially important in a medical facility, the decision was made to address the aging equipment proactively rather than risk an unexpected failure, extended downtime, emergency equipment rentals, and major disruption to building operations.

Our team coordinated the project from engineering and permitting through installation and startup, including:

• Removal of the existing rooftop cooling tower
• Crane coordination and rigging
• Replacement of the failed equipment curb cap
• Installation of a new BAC cooling tower with stainless-steel basin and spring isolation
• New condenser-water piping and connections
• New ABB VFD and associated electrical work
• Final startup and system commissioning

The replacement was carefully scheduled for a Saturday to minimize impact on the facility and was completed within the planned building shutdown window.

Projects like this are a great example of the value of proactive capital planning. Identifying critical equipment at the end of its service life and replacing it on a planned schedule can help avoid emergency costs, prolonged HVAC outages, and unnecessary disruption to occupants and facility operations.

B&B Mechanical is proud to recognize Angela, Katelynn, and Jaylee for volunteering their time with Serving Seniors yesterday! 💙

Together, they helped serve lunch to more than 200 local seniors and put their creativity to work decorating and painting banners for the upcoming “Senior Idol” event at the end of the month. 🎨🎤

A special thank you to Naomi, Volunteer & Activities Coordinator, for giving our team such a warm welcome, showing us where to check in, and leading everyone through the afternoon craft activities.

We’d also like to thank Laura, Community Engagement Manager, for taking the time to give us a tour and teach us more about Serving Seniors, the programs and resources they provide, and the incredible impact they have on seniors throughout our community.

Another highlight of the day was working alongside head Cafeteria Manager Fred, whose dedication is truly inspiring. Fred has volunteered his time every day except Sundays for the past 18 years! His commitment to serving others is an amazing example of what community service is all about.

Throughout the day, our team enjoyed plenty of laughs, shared jokes, great conversations, and memorable moments visiting with the local seniors.

While our technicians are working hard in the field, an equally dedicated team is keeping everything moving behind the scenes. 💪☀️

The women in our office play a significant role in every part of our operation. From dispatching and coordinating service calls to accounting, production, customer communication, and business development. Their organization, teamwork, and commitment help ensure our technicians have the support they need and our customers receive the responsive service they deserve.

With the recent heat wave bringing extremely high demand, our entire team has remained focused, flexible, and committed to helping our customers stay cool and operational. As San Diego temperatures continue to rise, our CEO, Service Manager, and Field Manager would like to remind everyone to take proactive steps to stay cool, comfortable, and safe.

For building owners and property managers, one of the best ways to prevent unexpected HVAC downtime is to keep up with preventative maintenance. Clean filters, clear condenser coils, proper airflow, and early attention to unusual noises or performance issues can help your system operate more efficiently during peak summer conditions.

We are also committed to protecting our technicians working on rooftops and in demanding conditions. Our team is encouraged to stay hydrated, take scheduled cooling breaks, wear proper sun protection, and watch for early signs of heat exhaustion. Safety always comes before speed.

Here are a few HVAC technician tips for commercial property managers during peak summer temperatures:

Dirty filters restrict airflow, reduce efficiency, and can cause units to work harder than necessary.

Another successful project completed by the team!

This project involved the replacement of a cooling tower, installation of new structural supports, condenser water piping upgrades, and a new ABB Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to improve system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency.

One of the biggest challenges was completing the work within a tight shutdown window. The team coordinated a Saturday shutdown, safely removed the existing equipment, completed all mechanical and structural modifications, installed and commissioned the new systems, and had the facility back up and running on schedule.

Projects like this require detailed planning, strong communication, and flawless ex*****on from everyone involved. Proud of the team's commitment to safety, quality, and minimizing disruption to the customer’s operation.

Recently, our team completed a major HVAC infrastructure upgrade at a local fire station that had been operating with aging and outdated mechanical systems.

The project included the installation of a new boiler for the reheat system, a new chiller for chilled water production, and a complete controls upgrade with new CAT6 communication wiring throughout the building and back to the mechanical equipment pad. These improvements provide faster, more reliable system communication and significantly enhance overall performance and efficiency.

One of the biggest challenges was completing the work while minimizing downtime in a facility that operates 24/7. Through careful planning and coordination, our team successfully executed the project with minimal disruption to daily operations.

Fire stations are facilities where comfort cooling and reliable HVAC operation are truly mission-critical. Maintaining a comfortable environment helps support the firefighters who are always ready to respond when our communities need them most.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project across the finish line. Your hard work, professionalism, and commitment made this a successful project.
