A recent customer review for work completed on 9/2/2026 .

T&T recently removed a large Norway Maple that was adjacent to a holly tree. They carefully craned the sections of maple being careful to avoid damaging the holly. They again were careful in grinding the stump to avoid the holly root system. They were also careful to avoid doing any damage to the yard. I’ve used T&T for many years, and find them to be very professional in all interactions. If you want tree work done carefully and professionally, T&T Tree Service is a great choice.

Fall. What a wonderful time of the year. You’re about to grab the kids and head to the pumpkin patch when you hear what sounds like whispers from your yard as the leaves float on the breeze.

“We’re HUNGRY!” Those are your trees and shrubs. It’s time to fertilize!

Beech Leaf Disease

UPDATE FROM THE FIELD
TREATMENTS IN 2025 SHOW A SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT
The results are impressive as T&T revisits trees treated last season. You and T&T are saving trees. Together we treated nearly 500 trees!
Since 2020 Beech Leaf Disease has been quickly killing thousands of our native American Beech trees and Ornamental European and oriental beech trees.
What can be done about Beech Leaf Disease?
Using a newly developed systemic fungicide - PHOSPHO-jet, EPA reg #74578-3, shows a significant reduction in the number of “worms” found in the buds after treatment.
Phospho-jet is injected into the tree, underneath the bark (like the successful treatment for Emerald Ash Borer). Treatment is once per year, in the August time frame. With the second treatment, based on tree conditions, the service will be EVERY OTHER YEAR.

The disease is caused by Litylenchus crenatae ssp mccannii, nematodes (foliar microscopic roundworms) that feed on beech buds and leaves.

The first visible signs of Beech Leaf Disease occur when the leaves are emerging, showing dark green striped bands between the leaf veins that may only be present on a few leaves. Banded leaf symptoms can be best seen by backlighting infected leaves against the sky.

As the disease progresses, more leaves become affected and additional symptoms appear, including browning leaf edges that begin to curl and crinkle, defoliation and leathery leaf texture.
On heavily infected trees, the bubs will be killed, or leaves will fall off soon after emerging in May.

TREE FATALITIES – no, not the tree, the HUMANS doing it themselves!
The Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) conducted an analysis of 62 civilian tree care-related accidents reported by the media. TCIA is a trade association that promotes professional tree care and discourages homeowners from taking unnecessary risks caring for their trees themselves.

While these numbers are not representative of ALL– or even most – tree care accidents involving non-professionals, they provide insight into the types of hazards homeowners are likely to encounter while attempting tree work.

The findings were grim: 41 of the accidents (66 percent) were fatal!


“Homeowners don’t realize how dangerous tree work can be, and how much they are risking by taking the ‘do-it-yourself’ approach”, says Rich Mowry, President of T & T Tree Service in Lambertville NJ, a member of TCIA.

TREE FATALITIES – no, not the tree, the HUMANS doing it themselves!

The median age of the victim was 43, and the oldest victim was 85. The youngest reported victim was a 2-year-old toddler who was 50 feet away when the tree his father was cutting fell the wrong way, tragically, striking and killing the child.

Four of the 41 victims, including the 2-year-old, were uninvolved bystanders.

Most homeowners were struck by a tree while attempting to fell it, or were hit by limbs, wires or chain saws. Others fell or were electrocuted. Chart A provides more details on the accidents.

In two-thirds of all cases where it could be determined, the victims undertook hazardous tree work with nobody to spot them, nobody to assist them and nobody to advise them when it might have been prudent to stop and seek out an expert.

Hurricanes and violent storms
“It is important that people who live in the northeast area be prepared,” says Rich Mowry, President of T&T Tree Service in Lambertville NJ. “Right now, get your trees as ready as they can be to survive a major storm. Don’t wait until the storm is headed your way.”

The Atlantic hurricane season, currently defined as the time frame from June 1 through November 30, is a time when most tropical cyclones are expected to develop across the northern Atlantic Ocean. What steps should homeowners take with the trees in their landscape?

One of the greatest dangers to life and property during hurricanes is posed by falling trees and limbs. Rich Mowry, an ISA Certified Arborist, and New Jersey Certified Tree Expert says, “Larger trees in leaf will ‘catch’ more wind and be subjected to increased mechanical stresses.

These stresses increase the chances of either branch or whole-tree failure. Preparing trees for a high-wind event should be done well in advance of the storm season. However, it’s not too late to start preparing, now.”

To help ease these dangers, have a qualified tree care provider evaluate your trees. Doing this will help determine potential weaknesses and dangers.”

Look at your trees for the following some of these Warning Signs:
• Wires in contact with tree branches. Trees may become energized when they are contacted by electric wires.
• Dead or partially attached limbs hung up in the higher branches that could fall and cause damage or injury.
• Cracked stems and branch unions that could cause catastrophic failure of a tree section.
• Hollow or decayed areas on the trunk or main limbs.
• Mushrooms growing from the bark may indicate a decayed and weakened stem.
• Peeling bark or gaping wounds in the trunk could also indicate structural weakness.
• Fallen or uprooted trees putting pressure on other trees beneath them.
• Tight, V-shaped branch unions, which are much more prone to failure than open, U-shaped unions.
• Heaving soil at the tree base is a potential indicator of an unsound root system.

Below are 3 more effective and easy options that you can find at any garden center!

MINT

If you plant mint, just be careful. It grows quickly and will take over your garden and squish your other plants. It’s best to grow mint in containers to keep it from becoming invasive. It is also a perennial.

That said, not only is the oil produced by mint plants great at repelling mosquitoes, but deer also won’t eat it.

Put those containers around your flower beds to set up a natural netting. Mint grows about two feet tall and blooms in late summer, with small, light purple flowers. Great in iced tea or Mojitos!

SAGE

When your life is turned upside-down and nothing seems to be going right, you can burn sage to cleanse the bad energy from your life.

We’re not sure if it works, but some cultures believe it does. It will keep the mosquitoes away even if it doesn’t keep away the bad vibes. If you’re using it as a mosquito repellent, it’s most effective when you throw some leaves into your fire.

Additional benefits of Sage: It smells good, great for brown butter sauces or stuffings and attracts hummingbirds. Hummingbirds are far more beautiful than mosquitoes. It’s a hardy perennial and puts up spikes of light purple flowers.

CATNIP

Catnip plants contain something called “nepetalactone.”

It’s the chemical that attracts cats but is a huge turn-off to mosquitoes, termites, and cockroaches.

In 2001, the American Chemical Society published a study revealing that, because of that chemical, Catnip is actually 10 times better at repelling mosquitoes than the DEET you find in many bug sprays. It does attract cats, so if you’re in an area with a stray population, you may end up making a few new furry friends. MEOW!

Tree Growth Regulator
reduce pruning, overgrowing and enhances tree health
For many years, T & T Tree has successfully used Tree Growth Regulator (TGR). Applied properly, the regulator controls the growth of trees for three years. It’s BONSAI for trees and shrubs.
Common examples of treated trees are large deciduous trees like Maples, Oaks, Elms, Sweetgums and London Plan trees, Ornamental trees like: Flowering cherries, crabapples and hollies and fast-growing species planted near house foundations, entryways, power lines or sidewalks.
TGR suppresses both the primary growth of twig elongation and secondary growth of trunk diameter. This leads to more sustainable, lower-maintenance landscapes. TGR allow property managers to maintain large, maturing trees in tight spaces for longer periods of time. TGR helps to prevent structural damage to street/driveway by slowing root growth. It’s like Alladin tricking the genie back into that itty-bitty lamp!
Importantly, cell division continues. The plant still produces the same number of cells, just smaller, resulting in a measurable reduction in growth. It redirects energy to root development and increases chlorophyll production.
Leaves and root characteristics change too. Leaves produced after treatment are typically smaller, show improved COLOR and appear thicker (higher concentrations of chlorophyll) and can recover from chronic chlorosis. TGR also helps to reduce water loss during drought. It stimulates inhibitors that enhance resistance to some pathogens and leaf-feeding insects.
In some species, finer root density increases. This may help stabilize trees that show early signs of stress or slow deterioration.
A good example of its efficacy would be in Pin Oak trees (pix above) suffering from bacterial leaf scorch. TGR enhances resistance to some pathogens, produce thicker leaves with higher concentration of chlorophyl enabling the ailing tree to metabolize sunlight into energy.
Over time, TGR reduces the need for pruning, which lessens the number of wounds, improving tree health. It can be a good investment for your landscape when done once every three years.
