Some people build careers. Others build legacies that leave a lasting impact on everyone around them. Harry Scheid has done both.
From starting his career as a carpenter to eventually becoming President and CEO of Horst Construction and Horst Excavating, Harry's journey has always been rooted in hard work, determination, and a genuine love for the construction industry.
But what makes Harry such an exceptional leader isn't just the career he's built or the success he's helped our companies achieve. It's the way he's treated the people who helped make it all possible.
Despite decades of leadership and countless responsibilities, Harry never forgot where he started. He understood the challenges our crews face because he had been in their shoes. Whether he was visiting a job site, firing up the grill to cook lunch for employees, celebrating someone's work anniversary, or simply sharing a laugh in the hallway, Harry made it a priority to remind people that they mattered.
He has always understood something that truly great leaders never lose sight of: a company's greatest strength is its people.
Throughout his career, Harry has helped shape not only the success and reputation of Horst Construction and Horst Excavating, but also the culture, relationships, and values that make these companies what they are today. His leadership has left an impact that reaches far beyond the projects we've completed or the milestones we've celebrated.
As Harry begins his well-deserved retirement, we want to thank him for the years of dedication, the lessons he's shared, the opportunities he's created, and most importantly, the example he's set for everyone fortunate enough to work alongside him.
Harry, you've spent your career building something much bigger than yourself, and that's a legacy worth celebrating.
There's no question that Harry leaves behind some incredibly big shoes to fill. But as Jason Hess steps into his role as President of Horst Excavating and Kenneth Fetterolf takes the lead as President of Horst Construction, we couldn't be more confident in the future of both companies. We know they'll continue building on the strong foundation Harry has worked so hard to establish, each bringing their own strengths while carrying forward the values that have made Horst what it is today.
Thank you, Harry, for everything you've built, everything you've taught us, and the countless ways you've made a difference. Your legacy will always be a part of Horst.
Congratulations on your retirement!
