ATTENTION: If you have a heatpump go ahead and put it in emergency heat at the thermostat. That needs to be done before the real ice starts accumulating on the outside fan and does damage to the blade and motor. As soon as the ice has melted remember to switch back to normal setting at the thermostat. Call S.A. Sloop Heating and Air for no heat calls. HEAT PUMP OWNERS:

A thin layer of ice covering your coils is normal and should defrost off during the defrost cycle.

If you have any doubt about your heat or see more accumulation you can turn your EMERGENCY HEAT on at the thermostat. This is an electric backup.

Please keep in mind, heat pumps heat air to temps below your body heat. The air may feel cold but still be operating properly. Watch your thermostat temperature to know if the system is heating.

GAS FURNACE OWNERS:

80% gas furnaces should have no issues so long as you have power.

90%+ high efficiency gas furnaces produce condensation when they run. This condensation will be piped outside your home to daylight typically. This is normally either a 3/4” white PVC pipe or a clear 3/8” tube. If those condensation lines freeze it can trip the water safety on your furnace.

To fix this heat the frozen condensation line outside with hot water, or other safe means to clear the frozen blockage.
