For veterans, planning ahead can help make sure their wishes are known and their service is properly honored.

Pre-planning gives veterans the opportunity to talk with loved ones about preferences for burial or cremation, the type of service they would like, and the military honors for which they may be eligible.

It can also provide time to locate important service-related documents, verify available veterans benefits and make decisions before a family is faced with doing so during a difficult time.

A little preparation now can help provide peace of mind for both veterans and the people who love them. Call now to set your pre-planning appointment today!

A look inside the "new" Gorsline-Runciman garage at 900 E. Michigan Avenue in Lansing in 1941.

This photograph captures an impressive lineup of funeral vehicles, including what appear to be several Packards, parked beneath the garage's exposed steel beams.

The garage itself has an interesting place in our history. As Gorsline-Runciman grew, the original garage, located where the main chapel stands today, was no longer sufficient. A larger garage was eventually constructed, complete with three apartments above it.

During this era, maintaining a fleet of funeral vehicles was an important part of the daily operation. These automobiles served a variety of purposes, from transporting families and funeral parties to carrying out the dignified transportation of loved ones.

The polished chrome, distinctive grilles, and orderly arrangement of the vehicles offer a fascinating glimpse into funeral service more than eight decades ago.

A copy of this photograph has long been displayed in the North Room at our Lansing Chapel. With a recently acquired album of additional historical photographs, we're looking forward to sharing even more of the people, places, and automobiles that have shaped our history.

We recently came across this September 1998 edition of the G R Messenger, an internal newsletter once shared among the Gorsline Runciman team.
Tucked among the September birthdays, anniversaries, upcoming events and fall news were two names that made us smile.

Lisa Dickson Orel appears in the newsletter under “Dedicated Employees,” marking her September anniversary with Gorsline Runciman. Just a little farther down the page is a warm welcome for Lois Janetzke, who had recently joined the team.
And all these years later, both Lisa and Lois are still part of the Gorsline Runciman family.

So much has changed since September 1998, but finding their names on this old newsletter is a wonderful reminder that our history isn't only found in buildings, photographs and documents. It lives in the people who have cared for our families, supported one another and helped shape Gorsline Runciman through the years.

Twenty eight years later, we're pretty lucky and so blessed to still have these two wonderful ladies on our team.

Names and dates tell us when someone was here.

An epitaph can tell us a little about who they were.

It might speak to someone's faith, their work, the role they treasured most or even a saying their family heard them repeat a thousand times.

And sometimes the most meaningful words aren't formal at all.

Think about the people closest to you.

What's one sentence your family would immediately recognize as yours?

We were glad to be part of yesterday’s Lansing Fall Senior Expo at Lansing Mall!

Michele from our pre-need team spent the afternoon connecting with attendees, answering questions and sharing helpful information about planning ahead. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout and so many local organizations coming together to provide resources for area seniors and their families.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table to say hello, ask a question or learn a little more about the options available to you. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of events that help keep our Lansing community informed and connected.

And thank you to Gazette Media Group and Lansing Mall for hosting such a well-attended event!

From Our Archives | The 1940 Packard Ambulance

Take a closer look at the windows on this beautiful Packard ambulance!

The rear passenger windows feature decorative geometric glasswork, an unexpected detail for a vehicle designed for medical transportation. A cross displayed near the front of the vehicle identifies its ambulance role, while its extended body, whitewall tires, and polished chrome reflect the distinctive styling of the era.

Before modern emergency medical services became commonplace, funeral homes often provided ambulance transportation for their communities. This Packard represents that important chapter in Gorsline-Runciman's history.

Photographed outside our Lansing location at 900 E. Michigan Avenue, the ambulance offers a fascinating look at the craftsmanship and specialized design of the vehicles that once served our community.

From its distinctive windows to its carefully detailed exterior, this is one automobile that deserves a second look!
