Small homes call for space saving solutions. This simple design has given us more space to play even though the table is 7’ long! Pine boards from the mill- 1x6’s (table and rails) and 2x8’s (benches), 2 sets of hinges, some screws and glue, and a few coats of poly are what was needed to complete the job. About $140 in total.

Now that’s a cosmic carrot!!... And it’s a ! #

We extended the compost pile this year, basically doubled the size and started a new batch parallel to the old one. After filling the gardens grow-beds with last year’s compost, emptying the “old” bin, we planted some seed potatoes and let them do their thing. What a trick! No need to prep or loosen the soil when a 4’ pile of compost has been sitting on it for a year. The potatoes are huge and there is a ton of them. So satisfying!

I love that it’s almost October and yet in certain sections of the garden I can still find this little one picking berries. Chokeberries to be exact. Packed full of antioxidants and able to stain your tongue a hilarious shade of purple with a single taste. Truly one of the most potent fruits we have on the homestead. Don’t forget to bring your rainbow rain boots and the cat!
