Ol' MacMenamin's Grill for throwback Thursday.When all the woodwork, the bar, the service room, was done, thats one sort of satifaction, then came the people stuff, the tables, chairs and settings, the wine stocked and visible, the touches of artwork.That gives a space its life.

A repost about pride in one's work and history

A major portion of a project wound down this past week. I was standing the work area and some very busy painters were scraping, patching and sanding the near 120 year old hand turned wood columns.Every good paint job is about 90% preparation an "Old World" house painter once told me.
This one fellow, a young fellow from South America, was studiously scraping this column, and the dark green paint of 1895 was exposed.Apparently ALOT was painted that green back then.
I told him how old the column was and his eyes lit up, and he enjoyed the story of the age of it.He continued, and I could see his increased enthusiasm as he knew he has something in front of him older than most structures in the area... it was HIS column.The columns are beautiful now!
