🚨 DON’T GET SCAMMED 🚨
Previous homeowner told my client “the units are new, you have nothing to worry about”. This is what happens to a 3 yr old compressor when you install new outdoor units (R410a refrigerant) without addressing the 20+ year old indoor evaporator coils with R22 metering devices. Old refrigerant, mixed refrigerant, oils, moisture, etc. create acid contamination and breaks down electrical components inside the compressor that lead to blown terminals.
As a minimum evasive repair, we are changing the TXV to an R410a expansion valve, flushing the system with RX11, replacing the filter drier, and then purging the system with nitrogen before reinstalling the new compressor and recharging the system. This is a $3,800 repair on a “brand new unit”.
Don’t let the cheap guy tell you he can Frankenstein your unit and “it will work just fine” — it won’t.
There’s an old saying in HVAC — “Compressors don’t die of natural causes, they get murdered”. Poor installation practices lead to premature failures!
(We typically recommend a new indoor matching evaporator coil when budget allows)
