Brittany is an architect. She'd already designed her own pool before she called anybody, and she got quotes from three companies.

Justin was the one who listened to the design instead of trying to redo it. He also walked her through how to read the other two proposals and what pricing to actually expect, which is not a normal thing to do when there's a good chance somebody goes elsewhere.

Then Eric ran the build. He coordinated the sewer line relocation with her plumber so it wouldn't hit the pool footprint, and when a drainage issue turned up he worked through a weekend on it.

The most underrated thing you can put in a pool.

One sheer descent is a trickle you stop hearing after about a week. Three across a wide wall gives you enough water noise to cover a neighbor's pool pump, which is exactly why one of these got built that way.

It also does something a light or a tile can't. It gives the yard a sound.

If you want that more than you want the look, say so at your design consult. It changes what we'd draw. 💧

What does a pool cost in Tampa Bay? It's the first question on almost every call, and the honest answer tends to annoy people.

The myth is that pools around here all land in roughly the same place. They don't, and the reason is your property. The shape of your yard, how much room there is to get into the backyard, and what you actually want built.

A sloped yard costs more. So does a tight side entrance, because a machine that can't get in the easy way means more labor and more days. And the features people forget to count, decking, sun shelves, sheer descents, all need materials and time that nobody sees looking at a finished photo. They still show up in the price.

For a general idea, our average new pool project runs around $110,000, and the fully customized outdoor projects can exceed $500,000.

So what will yours cost? Nobody can answer that honestly without standing in your backyard. Save this for when you're comparing quotes. ☀️

Belleair, from about sixty feet up. 🌴

Stonescapes Aqua Cool on the interior, LuvTile MLD-2364 at the waterline, and Granitelock Arctic White 12x24 in a running bond for the coping and the deck. Ten foot wall with three sheer descents at the head of the pool, turf across the rest of the yard. Arctic White is one of the few decks you can walk across barefoot in July without thinking about it. On a yard with no shade that matters more than the color does.

Custom pool design starts with your yard. We come out, look at the slope and your sight lines, watch where the sun hits in the morning and afternoon, and ask where your family will actually spend time. Then we design your pool around all of it. We never use templates.

Looking for pool tile ideas? Here are five tile picks from our builds around Tampa Bay, and no two look anything alike 💧

Baystone Adrano KM-2148. A mix of light and deep blues that almost looks painted when you see it from above.
LuvTile COA-2313. Soft aqua subway tile that plays really nicely with the cream coping.
Artistry in Mosaics NF613B22. Cobalt and black brick on a raised wall that really pops against the water.
Maretzi Smyrna. The show-off of the group. Every piece catches the light a little differently, so it never looks the same twice.
LuvTile SPB-1312. Streaky blues with a little sparkle mixed in, running along a ledge right at the water.

Every finish on this Riverview pool was chosen to get the water looking exactly this blue 💧
Swipe through for the full material breakdown. The interior is PebbleSheen Blue Surf, which is what gives the water that bright, medium blue color. Baystone's Adrano 1x2 glass tile trims the spa and runs along the ledge, so all those blues show up above the waterline too. Then we kept everything around it soft and neutral with Shellock Ivory bullnose coping and 12x24 Artistic Shellock Ivory pavers on the deck. Bonus: light pavers like these are a lot kinder to bare feet in a Florida summer.
