McCarter had its beginning in Laurinburg, NC in 1945 when W. McCarter came to the community to direct a six-week job contracted by Morgan Mills for a Raeford plant. McCarter was a superintendent for the John Bolen Company of Charlotte at that time. McCarter was so impressed with the community he was instrumental in the establishment of a branch office of the Bolen firm in August 1947. It was locat
ed on East Church Street in Laurinburg, NC, and was called Electrical Contracting and Engineering Company. Ten years later McCarter purchased the Laurinburg branch of Electrical Contracting and Engineering Company and renamed it McCarter Electrical Company. McCarter, retired and Buddy McCarter, his son became the Chairman of McCarter Electrical Company. Presently, Buddy's two children, Susan and Rodney McCarter, are the co-owners of the company. Under three generations of family management and with the help of many friends and longtime employees, McCarter’s name has grown with the community and its needs – from the five employees in 1957 to approximately 200 full time employees today.
