clark | huesemann Creating a better world through design, planning and the prediction of the future.

We believe in the power of design to affect positive change in the use and experience of built environments. We work with clients to discover how they might maximize the use of their facilities to be more effective, and the experience of their environments to be rich and humane. In the planning and design of environments we practice “on the ground” research. Our ethnographic research involves dire

ct observation and a way of looking at the use of environments that reveals truths about how people and organizations function in their current space, and provides insight into how a new or renovated facility might improve the “work” of that unique group, community or organization. Our fresh and energetic approach to design, backed by deep experience, delivers highly functional, durable and sustainable environments. In working this way, we creatively go beyond the typical approach of solving apparent problems to discovering and realizing unforeseen opportunities for our clients. LEED accreditation is something we have taken to heart since 2006, and have the experience and ability to deliver super green, "smart" energy saving designs utilizing common, tested and cost effective strategies. Our firm is a member of the 2030 Challenge, focusing our efforts on energy reduction in all the buildings we design.

Welcome back, KU students!! Not every successful project comes with glamorous photos. In this case, the biggest transformation happened behind 93 restroom doors. Clark Huesemann recently completed restroom renovations and kitchenette upgrades throughout the residential suites in KU’s Lewis Hall, improving functionality, accessibility, and aesthetics! Thanks to our partners at KBS Constructors, the work was completed in time to welcome students back for move-in.

It's that time of year again: Lawrence will soon welcome KU and Haskell students as they arrive en masse. That means traffic is going to be heavy in a few areas around town.

Some projects really rock. We're proud to have completed renovations at Willard Hall, home to Kansas State University's Department of Geology. From the displays lining the halls to the students and researchers who use the space every day, this building plays an important role in advancing earth science education. We're grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a space where students explore the history, and future, of our planet.

This past weekend we decided to participate in the City of Lawrence, Kansas - Municipal Government electronics recycling event. We pooled together e-waste from the office and our studio members' homes into one Honda Pilot cargo area filled to the rim! The office paid the fees and dropped off the items. The City did a great job organizing the effort and made the whole process easy. Responsible recycling of e-waste keeps toxic items out of the landfill, and it was fun to meet up on a Saturday morning to deliver the recycling. We are excited to see what statistics come from the city on the event - the participation looked high! We also appreciate the free reusable shopping bag printed with recycling rules 😀

This year, a large clark | huesemann contingent headed out to the Flint Hills for the Cottonwood Road & Gravel 200. Four of our team members spent the long weekend riding through the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve and taking in the incredible Kansas scenery.

A huge thank you to the Kaw Valley Bicycle Club for hosting this ride. It’s an amazing event that showcases the beauty of Kansas and the incredible community spirit in Council Grove. We’re already looking forward to next year!
