I want to share something I've been working on for about 7 weeks.
I've run my insulation business here in Lawrenceburg for over 4 years, and now me and Levi and Anna are partners. Like most contractors, I spent a lot of evenings doing estimates and invoices after the actual work was done. And to be honest, I lost more than 75% of the jobs I should have won, from not getting the estimate out quick enough, not looking professional enough, or just plain forgetting. There are plenty of estimating and quoting apps on the market, but not one that did what I thought it should at a reasonable price. So I built my own.
It wasn’t the easiest thing I’ve done but I’m glad I learned how to and started building.
It's called SayEstimate. You describe the job and it builds the estimate. Literally. You can tell the app to create a new client, give it the name and address, and boom, new client. Then it asks what's next. An estimate? Of course. So you tell it "I've got a building that's 50x50 with 12 ft walls, needs 6 inches of open cell spray foam in the roof deck and gable ends and 4 inches in the walls, 4/12 pitch," and boom, a line-by-line estimate in seconds. The customer signs it on their phone before you leave the driveway and can pay the deposit right there by card or bank transfer, Ach or even finance the whole job through Affirm (subject to their approval), so a big number doesn't have to hit them all at once.
It handles invoices, payment reminders, and scheduling too, and payments go directly to your own bank account. Or just ask it what you need to know , I had a window that has condensation in between the panels and I just ask the ai what could I do to fix this problem and it gave me three ideas and estimates
Honest truth: I was just building myself something so I didn't have to pay $45 a month for an app that made me do all the work anyway. But as I built it, I started seeing a pattern in the big apps. They paywall everything. The basic plan runs $9.99 a month and you get 3 estimates or invoices. Really? I do more than that in a day. Every feature that would actually help my business was behind a higher tier. I think 99% of the features should just be included. The only thing in my app that isn't a free or lifetime feature is the AI, and that's only because every time someone uses it, it costs me something, so I have to get reimbursed. And honestly, the AI makes everything easier.
Here's an example from just today. A customer wanted a quote on a house that was 70x50 with 14 ft walls on part of it and a 6/12 pitch roof over the whole thing. Without this app and the AI, I'd have never figured I needed to charge an extra 1,000 sq ft for that pitch. And it's not just for insulation. Painter, builder, plumber, doesn't matter. It's built to answer a working contractor's questions and make your business simpler, more organized, and more profitable.
