David Long, the locksmith accompanying Indian River County deputies serving an eviction notice, has sadly passed away.

He was also shot along with two other deputies. Terri Sweeting-Mashkow was killed. Deputy Tino Arizpe has been released from the hospital.

According to his family, David Long “was a fun, hard-working man who brought energy and laughter everywhere he went. He cared deeply for his family and worked tirelessly to support the people he loved. He will be missed more than words can say.”

A little PSA about car keys.
The insurance industry put pressure on car manufacturers to add transponder chip technology to all vehicles. So, your vehicle more than likely has a "chip key".
You've lost your keys - they are EXPENSIVE - especially if you go to the dealership. Also dealerships, many times CANNOT even generate *some* keys for their own vehicles.
When things are expensive, I generally search and search until I find the least expensive option.
When it comes to car keys, this is a VERY BAD IDEA. Amazon, eBay, Alibaba &etc have some really cheap keys. Many people buy them and will call a locksmith to cut and program them. Here's the problem, many times the aftermarket, Chinese manufactured keys, DO NOT WORK, or are the WRONG KEY, and you will be out the money. Many times, even if initial programming is successful, the keys will still fail, sometimes within less than a week. You are still out the money.
Call your locksmith, and let them provide the key -
1) it will be the correct key
2) it will not be a substandard piece of junk
3) it will have a warranty

As a locksmith, I get called out often to unlock cars where folks have locked their keys inside their car. Many times they will only have one key to their car - and it's locked inside!
You really need a second key.
Car keys nowadays have security chips in them that need to be programmed in order to start the car, these can be very expensive to replace -BUT- a simple and plain mechanical key can be made at a cost of $2 to $7 or so, MUCH LESS than a $75+ unlocking charge. It WON'T start your car, but it WILL open your door.
It can easily be slipped into your wallet (or cellphone case) for when you need it.
Some folks may use Magnetic Key Cases that attach to the underside of their car. But, the minute you drive over a speed-hump, or accidentally hit a curb - it's gone! The magnets are NOT very strong at all - The magnet can be removed and the box installed (VERY carefully) with a self tapping sheet metal screw.
You can keep a spare door key in your wallet (or cellphone case), in your kitchen drawer, your desk at work - or even all 3! Works for your house key too.
Save your money - get an extra key today!
(Note: if you store your key in your wallet and lose your wallet, your address is connected to your key, a cellphone case attached to your belt, or other alternate location is a little better 😁)

My Door Won't Lock!! Sometimes your door won't close properly without pulling up on it, or having to slam it or tug in it. Maybe your deadbolt might miss the hole, or it won't extend fully.
This can be caused by loose screws in the hinges, bent hinges, warping in the door frame, mis-aligned strike plates, the strike hole in frame not being deep enough. Even weather stripping can make this occur.
