Got about a foot of heavy, wet snow. It's pretty, but it was enough to damage a few evergreens. I was more worried about the chestnuts and oaks, who tend to hang onto their brown leaves late into the winter (a trait called marcescence). Behold the leaden skies of a Michigan winter.

In addition to a hard frost on 5/9 that smoked most of the leaves on my persimmons, pawpaws, mulberries, amorpha, and others, I had a second late frost on JUNE 2 which knocked back the regrowth on some of those same plants. Ugh. Going to start grafting persimmons and pawpaws later today. Pic is a small chinquapin chestnut after the 6/2 frost.

Like everyone else I have spring fever after 5 cold, grey months of Michigan winter. Going through my garden videos to note what I've grafted where, it's so nice to see flowers and bees, it won't be long now. https://www.youtube.com//videos
