Today’s office view: a skid loader, a pond dam, and a whole lot of dirt.

Jim is out repairing a dam today. It might not look fancy, but keeping water where it belongs is one of the most important parts of managing land.

Filling feeders today.

Late winter is hard on deer around here. After the rut and before green up, groceries are limited and energy reserves are low. Does are carrying fawns and bucks are still recovering.

We try to stay consistent this time of year to help the herd stay strong heading into spring.

Same mindset we use when we build. Take care of it now so it lasts.

Finishing up roof sheeting and getting the weather barrier on today.
This is the part nobody sees once the metal goes down — but it matters.

Proper sheathing, clean lines, and a full barrier mean a tighter building, fewer problems down the road, and a structure that holds up in Kansas weather.

We don’t cut corners. We build it right the first time.

Kansas wind doesn’t care if a building is “almost done.”

When walls and trusses go up, the structure is not yet acting as a complete system. Until permanent shear, decking, and connections are installed, the building relies on temporary bracing to stay upright.

What we brace—and why:

• Wall bracing
Tall walls act like sails. Temporary diagonal bracing keeps walls plumb until roof, sheathing, and permanent lateral systems lock everything together.

• Truss bracing
Trusses are strong vertically, but unstable sideways until properly braced. Wind can rack or collapse unbraced trusses in seconds.

• Progressive stability
Each stage of construction changes load paths. Bracing is adjusted as the structure gains strength—not removed too early.

High winds = higher risk
Even moderate Kansas gusts can generate enough lateral force to:
– Rack walls
– Roll trusses
– Damage connections
– Put crews at risk

Bottom line:
Temporary bracing isn’t optional, overkill, or “slowing things down.”
It’s what keeps people safe and buildings straight.

Good buildings start with good fundamentals.
Wind doesn’t forgive shortcuts.

Picked up a custom bed frame today — complete with built-in drawers and storage. Solid wood, sturdy lines, and storage that actually works (because who doesn’t need more room for all the things?).

This is the kind of project we love: functional, durable, and made to fit real life. No mass-produced shortcuts, just custom work built to last.

A good deck is more than lumber and screws—it’s an outdoor living room. It’s where morning coffee meets fresh air, where kids spill Popsicles and dogs sprawl in the sun, where neighbors wander over and conversations stretch out long after the grill cools down. The right deck is sturdy underfoot, but warm and inviting, built to handle the weight of heavy furniture and heavier memories.

Good builds don’t happen overnight. Whether it’s a deck, a remodel, or a new home, the truth is:
• Quality contractors book out months in advance. The ones who show up, do the job right, and don’t cut corners? They’re not sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. By the time most people call, their calendars are already stacked.
• Materials and crews take time to line up. Lumber, windows, fixtures, and specialty items aren’t always sitting on a shelf. Add in coordinating reliable subcontractors, and you’ve got a puzzle that needs time to fit together.
• Rushing usually costs you more in the long run. Last-minute changes, quick fixes, and scrambling for materials almost always mean higher prices and more headaches. A little patience and planning saves money and stress.

If you’re dreaming about breaking ground next spring or tackling a remodel this winter, now’s the time to start the conversation.

A solid plan on paper today means fewer surprises tomorrow. We can walk through your vision, give you realistic timelines, and make sure your project is on our schedule before it fills up.

📅 Don’t wait until you’re ready to swing a hammer — by then, you might be waiting in line.
