Here at Outbound, we are good at the plumbing and bad at the social media.
But after experiencing some unpleasant side effects at our house, we wanted to drop in and give everyone a heads up about that chlorine smell or taste they might be experiencing in their own home the last few days.
On August 3rd, Leander and some surrounding cities, temporarily changed their disinfectant from chloramine to free chlorine for approximately one month. I’ve linked the full brief in this post.
We’ve tested the water coming out of our kitchen sink and while the chlorine level is slightly elevated, it’s still safe to drink, bathe in, etc!
We’ve personally noticed a bit of a smell and a “slimy” feeling to the water. Like you have oil on your hands and it won’t wash off. We added filters to our existing shower heads to help with this. We have had a carbon filter system and separate faucet for our drinking water for many years and have pleasantly noticed no change to the taste of our water.

To maintain the effectiveness of the region's water distribution system, the cities of Cedar Park, Round Rock, Leander, and Liberty Hill will temporarily change their disinfectant from chloramine to free chlorine beginning August 3, 2026, for approximately one month.
