The new Cart Barn at the Quechee Club is taking shape and nearing completion. Designed to support the club’s daily operations, this single-story facility provides storage for 100 golf carts, golf bag storage, cart charging stations, and supporting building infrastructure.
We appreciate the continued partnership with the Quechee Club and look forward to seeing the completed facility in use this season!

We recently welcomed a group of 8th grade students to our office for a Job Shadow Day, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at life in an architecture firm.

Students connected with our team, explored current projects—including their school’s green roof redesign—and even shared their own creative ideas for the space. They also got hands-on with an AI-based 3D modeling tool to see how technology supports design.

We wrapped up with a casual lunch and great conversations about careers and collaboration. A fun and inspiring day all around!

Construction continues to make steady progress at Mellishwood Senior Apartments in Woodstock, VT.

Crews are currently completing earthwork and concrete operations, with framing scheduled to begin later this month. Despite a challenging winter for sitework and concrete placement, the project continues to move forward.

One of the most complex aspects of the project is the steep hillside along the north side of the site overlooking the Ottauquechee River. To stabilize the building and protect against 500-year flood conditions, a retaining wall nearly 20 feet tall is being constructed.

The project also requires significant excavation on a tight site that remains partially occupied by tenants, making coordination especially critical.

Exciting progress lies ahead as the building will soon begin to take shape.

Project Team Joining Banwell:
Construction Manager: Ingram Construction
Site Contractor: Fenoff Excavating
Concrete: Jeff Carter Concrete Works

Banwell Architects is proud to announce that the Rochester School District (SAU 54) is our 2025 Client of the Year! 🎉

Their team stood out for their collaboration, clear communication, and shared vision—qualities that helped make the Salmon Falls School project such a success. Working together, we helped the district move beyond aging facilities and portable classrooms by designing a new, consolidated PreK–5 school that serves about 380 students in a bright, flexible, and future-ready learning environment.

From securing significant state aid to creating spaces filled with natural light, a full gym, library commons, art and music rooms, and flexible classrooms, this project reflects the district’s commitment to its students and community.

As part of our Client of the Year tradition, we look forward to giving back with a Banwell staff volunteer day at one of your schools this year!

Congratulations, Rochester School District—and thank you for being such a fantastic partner.

A small piece of design history sits quietly in our office.

This Eames Aluminum Group chair was gifted to the original owner of our firm, Roy Banwell, and has remained here ever since. Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1958, the chair reflects a philosophy we still value today—simple forms, honest materials, and design that serves people first. The chairs were widely used in offices, lobbies and homes and they remain in production today!

More than just a place to sit in our office, it’s a daily reminder of where we’ve come from and the timeless principles that continue to shape our work.

A year ago, we welcomed these two fantastic team members to the Banwell squad—and we’re so grateful for their dedication, collaboration, and positive energy.

Want to hear a little about them?

Fritz moved to the Upper Valley from Connecticut in 2019. Outside of work, he stays active year-round with trail running, cycling, hiking, and ice climbing. A vegetarian with a love for bold flavors, he’s always up for a great spicy tofu veggie meal! Fritz values Banwell’s collaborative culture and the chance to work with a team that shares a passion for thoughtful, forward-thinking, crafted design.

Breanna loves making the most of Vermont and New Hampshire—golfing, hiking, farmers' markets, and spending time at her family’s lake houses in NH and Maine. Travel is a big passion of hers, with Italy holding a special place after studying abroad in Florence. Next on her list: Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. One of Breanna’s favorite things about Banwell is the team—she loves the amazing group and the great office atmosphere, where she’s learned so much while having fun.

Fun fact: Fritz was our newest employee for a solid two weeks before Breanna took over that title.

Congratulations on your first year at Banwell! 🎉

We took a break from the day-to-day to enjoy a fantastic lunch at Simon Pearce. Between great food, lots of laughs, and plenty of non-work chatter, it was the perfect chance to relax and reconnect. Moments like these remind us just how lucky we are to work with such a fun, kind, and genuinely wonderful group of co-workers. Cheers to a terrific 2026 from your friends at Banwell Architects!

Outside of the office ... Our Combined Driving Adventure 🐴❤️
We’ve fallen in love with the sport of Combined Driving! After starting out with our big Shire horses in parades and weddings, we’ve switched to Dutch Harness and Hackney horses—perfect for this fast and elegant sport.
I drive, Chris navigates, and in 2024 we were thrilled to win the Preliminary Pair Horse National Championship at the Garden State Horse Park! 🏆 We love the sport, our horses, and all the great friends we’ve made along the way.
