Cold weather reminder.

Do NOT plug space heaters into power strips or extension cords.

Plug space heaters directly into the wall outlet.

Powers strips are not designed to handle the high current flow required by a space heater and can overheat causing a fire.

DO NOT IGNORE THE VISIBLE SIGNS OF A RECEPTACLE HEATING UP!!!

With the increased use of space heaters this time of year, we have been having several service calls relating to loose connections and receptacles overheating.

On the face of the receptacle you’ll see that it looks like it melted and has gotten hot...
This is a potential fire hazard caused by a loose connection. Even if you do not use that receptacle and move to the next receptacle down the wall, damage has occurred on that circuit. Any use of that circuit has the potential of an electrical fire! Pictured below are two different calls from receptacles overheating.

Other indications of loose connection or damage:

• Some receptacles work in a room and some do not.
• Receptacles work for awhile then stop working for a bit. Intermittently working properly.
• Flickering lights.
