Things that every homeowner should know after a hail storm if you are worried about possible damage to your roof:

1. Don’t panic, while over time hail damage to shingles can (and very often does) cause water intrusion problems, it likely will not happen right away.

2. Call a LOCAL, reputable roofing company who is licensed and insured. What the industry calls “storm chasers” will likely be knocking doors near you. However, be cautious about these out-of-town companies. Often times they are not around to honor your warranty after the fact, if they offer one at all.

3. You likely will not be able to see hail damage to your shingles from the ground. Just because you cannot see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. You will want an experienced company to assess the damage for you from the roof.

4. After you have spoken to a roofing company you trust and they have gone over their evaluation with you, call your insurance company and start the claim process. Choose a roofing company who is experienced in working with insurance companies on these claims.
