Flown out of the Kansas City International Airport recently? We’ve got our Land3 handprints on this generational project!

LAND3 Studio was selected as the Landscape Architect for the Kansas City International Airport New Terminal project. Working directly for the architect Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), LAND3 designed exterior spaces including entry and exit drive sequences, pedestrian gardens, and visitor circulation routes from parking to the terminal.

First impressions of a city are made when visitors drive away from the terminal. Landscape spaces will reflect the historic and local landscape vernacular of the Kansas City region. LAND3 developed final schematics and construction documents as part of their scope of work.

Throwback Thursday - Mizzou Softball!

Landscape spaces provide spectator viewing areas while also providing spaces for events and tailgating. The outfield viewing berm is the featured landscape space in the softball stadium. LAND3 studied line-of-sights to maximize unobstructed views to the field.

The biggest challenge with the site design was to create a strong “sense of stadium” with the new stadium constructed in the middle of an existing parking lot. The berm in convert with a new outfield retaining wall helped levitate the sense of a stadium built into its surrounding. A strong gateway and perimeter fence system brought the building structure to the site.

LAND3 Studio worked with Lempka Edson Architects and provided full landscape architecture services for all site hardscape, plantings and irrigation.

One town, two projects - now under construction in Pittsburg, Kansas!

LAND3 is proud to be the landscape architect for two adjacent projects currently under construction: the new Kansas Bureau of Investigation Regional Facility with PGAV Architects and the new Pittsburg State University Prove Out Facility with Clark Huesemann.

Together, we developed a shared landscape vision that embraces the regional vernacular while strengthening the connection between public service, innovation, and education. Exciting to see both projects taking shape side by side as this vision becomes reality!

Throwback Thursday - VA Colorado Springs!

LAND3 Studio collaborated with the team of Hoefer Welker Architects, US Federal Properties and Jacobsen Contactors, to compete for and win the design for the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Colorado Springs. LAND3’s sustainable landscape concept drew inspiration from the Rocky Mountain Front Range, incorporating rolling hills of naturalized turf, artwork, and tree allees creating a park-like setting. An 800 linear foot landscape corridor named “Garden of the Gods” embraces the primary elevation of the building and utilizes turf berms, decorative rock swales, native grass massing and Colorado Red Stone boulders to reference the namesake park just outside the city limits.

VA Colorado Springs was awarded LEED Silver status.
