Then I open a panel or pull a device and find the truth.

Buried junction boxes hidden behind drywall.
Loose backstabbed outlets barely holding conductors.
Old aluminum wiring spliced into brand new copper circuits.

On the surface: modern.
Behind the finishes: risk.

Cosmetic renovations often skip the electrical backbone. The result is a home that *feels* safe but quietly runs on shortcuts.

"But the home passed inspection."

Here is the unspoken truth:

In a lot of older Central Florida homes, the wiring still “works.”

Here is the quiet problem.

Many of those same homes in Leesburg, The Villages, and nearby areas still have their original outlets in the places where accidents are most likely to happen.

Bathrooms.
Kitchens.
Garages.
Outdoor lanais and patio outlets.

Today, those spots are supposed to be protected by GFCI and often AFCI. Not because of “code,” but because of real life.

Plain language version:

GFCI is like a bodyguard near water.
If electricity starts leaking where it should not, it shuts off power in a split second to help protect you from shock. Think coffee maker near the sink, phone charger on a damp bathroom counter, or a pressure washer plugged in outside during a Florida storm.

AFCI is like a smoke detector for hidden wiring problems.
If a wire starts sparking inside a wall or at a loose connection, it trips before that tiny arc can turn into something much worse.

In older homes we often find:

• Original bathroom outlets with no GFCI, right next to sinks and space heaters.

Here is the hard truth.
A breaker that keeps tripping is usually doing its job.
