I get why it looks like the easy fix. Roll it out, cut a few holes, done — no more w**ding, right? Except that's not really how it plays out.
W**d barrier breaks down over time, and once dirt, mulch, and organic debris build up on top of it (which they always do), w**ds start rooting right into that layer anyway. So you end up pulling w**ds and fighting through fabric to do it.
It also blocks water and nutrients from soaking into the soil the way they should, which can stress out the plants you're actually trying to grow. And down the road, if you want to divide plants, add new ones, or just improve your soil, you're stuck cutting through a layer of fabric to get there.
A thick layer of mulch does the same w**d-suppression job — but instead of smothering your soil, it actually feeds it as it breaks down. No fabric, no future headache, no fighting your own garden bed years later.
Skip the barrier. Mulch it instead. **ding

One of the biggest mistakes, most people make during the hottest months is cutting their grass too short.

 Here’s why you should keep it a little taller:

Taller grass helps keep the soil cooler and retain moisture, meaning your grass won’t dry out as quickly.

Grass with more leaf surface can produce more energy leading to a healthier root system that is better equipped to handle heat and drought.

It helps prevent w**ds by naturally blocking the sunlight from reaching w**d seeds, making it harder for them to sprout.

 Removing too much of the plant at one time can shock the grass, causing it to turn brown and struggle during extreme heat.

Great tip for a healthy lawn-never remove more than 1/3 of the plant. Mowing height for southern lawns is typically 3.5-4 inches depending on grass type.
