The laundry room is one of the rooms people spend the most time in and think about the least.
So we gave this one two runs of counter for folding, hanging rods on both sides, storage all the way to the ceiling, and machines raised up so loading and unloading doesn't mean crouching on the floor. It's a room you're in a few times a week for years — it should earn that.

Junior designer Myriam designed this home, and the floating staircase is its crown jewel.

Metal treads with two stories of glass behind them, right off the entry. The rest of the Meredith:

The first fire of the season is about three weeks out.

We design the family room around the hearth first, then let the mantel set the proportions for the rest of the room. Come October it earns every bit of that attention: candles on the mantel, boots by the door, nobody willing to sit anywhere else.

Our design team got this one right, start to finish.

The mudroom does the heavy lifting so the kitchen stays open and quiet. Every room in this one talks to the room next to it. This home is already sold, but the thinking behind it goes straight into what we're building next.

It's just dirt and the outline of a foundation right now.
Next year this is our 2027 Parade of Homes house, in Sloane Estates in Highland. We're going to document the whole thing, from the concrete you're looking at here to the day the doors open.

Would you put your bathtub inside your shower?
That's the idea behind a wet room. One tiled, waterproofed space holds both. You lose the second glass enclosure, which opens up a surprising amount of floor, the steam stays where you want it, and the window can go by the tub instead of behind a shower panel.
We're building more of them lately, so we're curious: wet room, or keep the tub and shower separate?

Two vanities, two windows, and a tub as the centerpiece.

That's the primary bath in the Charlotte. Split vanities with fluted fronts so nobody's taking turns, glass on two walls pulling light in from opposite directions, and the tub out in the open where that light lands.
