Tomorrow is the last day of the Williams Bay Farmers Market! 🌱

This was our first season attending the market as Pizzo Native Plant Nursery, and we’ve had such an awesome time! It’s been so great meeting all the wonderful people of Williams Bay and the surrounding areas, making new connections, and getting to share our love of native plants with the community.

We’re so grateful for everyone who stopped by and supported us, and we hope to be back again in the future! If you haven’t made it to our tent yet, be sure to stop by tomorrow! We’ll have native plant plugs available for purchase individually, rather than only by the wholesale flat like we typically offer.

Come say hi to our sales rep, Adrian Coppage, grab some plants, and help us wrap up our first Williams Bay Farmers Market season!

See you tomorrow!

Wooo, what a great weekend! It went by way too fast, but luckily, we get a little break for Labor Day. 🥳

This week’s Plant of the Week is Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum virginianum). It blooms from June through September, smells amazing, attracts pollinators, and helps deter rabbits and deer. It’s low-maintenance once established and rhizomatous, so give it room to spread. It pairs well with Little Bluestem, Coneflowers, Blazing Stars, and Asters. Click the link below to add this into your next project!

Did you know today is basically a holiday, and a great excuse to get out of work early? Happy National Dog Day!

As much as we love native plants and ecology, we also love that this work brings us up close and personal with wildlife, from tiny mice to big deer. But nothing beats coming home to man’s best friend. Come find us at our next event and grab your very own Use Native Plants Pizzo bandana. The orange looks great on every coat!

Stay in the loop by subscribing to our newsletter for event updates, nursery news, and more. 🙂 Drop photos of your dogs in the comments below and make our day!

Raise your hand if you think Katee is the coolest! 🙋

This week, Katee gets right into it with our Plant of the Week: Dark Green Bulrush (Scirpus atrovirens). This native perennial thrives in open wetland areas and moist soils. While it may not be the best fit for a typical home landscape, its impressive 5-foot height and fast-spreading nature make it a great choice when it has plenty of room to grow.

Looking for a native plant that provides excellent erosion control? Consider adding Dark Green Bulrush to your next project. Visit our nursery through the link below to get your order in soon!

Do you guys remember when we posted back in December 2024 about this awesome Jack Cook project that had our team mixing up 16,000 lbs of native seed over the course of 6 days? Well… 19 months later, it’s a completely different ecosystem!

What was once a soybean field is now a robust, flourishing habitat filled with native plants, insects, wildlife, and so much more. And the best part? This entire restoration was seeded, not a single native plug was installed! Establishing a native ecosystem takes time, but when the timing is right, the planning is on point, and you’ve got a great team behind the project, the results can be pretty incredible.

We’re proud to see how far this project has come and can’t wait to see what the next few years bring!

A new character has been unlocked, along with a new Plant of the Week!

Say hello to our Outside Nursery Sales Representative, Kyle Marsh! This week, Kyle is highlighting Iris virginica var. shrevei (Southern blueflag) a beautiful, wetland-loving native that thrives in moist areas.

It’s a great option for rain gardens and projects where a little extra erosion control is needed. And with all the rain we’ve been getting lately, definitely keep this one in mind Because nothing says “summer fun” quite like a soggy yard or water pouring into your basement. Gotta love it! Farmers market, native plants, and cute dogs? Sounds like a great Friday to me!

If you’re in the area, stop by the Williams Bay Farmers Market from 8-1pm at Edgewater Park to pick up a few different species of native plant plugs. (List in the comments) It’s a great opportunity to try out a variety of plants a little at a time, rather than committing to an entire flat! Our Wisconsin Sales Representative, Adrian Coppage, will also be there to discuss any ideas you have, answer questions, or simply say hello!

And, of course, we want to meet your four-legged friends! If you stop by our tent with your dog, we’ll feature them in our Instagram Story! So, bring your pup, come say hi, and maybe grab some native plants while you’re here. 🙂

If we thought January–March was busy with events, this summer sure has been a busy one! And in the best, most productive way, may I add. Since June, we’ve attended the Williams Bay Farmers Market every Friday, participated in 19 events, and had multiple speaking engagements from members of our team. And it doesn’t stop there!

This month, we’ll be at the WNLA Golf Outing, with our Wisconsin Sales Rep, Adrian Coppage, and Inside Sales Rep for the Nursery, Katee Johnson. We’ll also be at the Landscape Illinois Summer Field Days, with Tyler Morhan, our Nursery Manager, and Katee representing Pizzo Native Plant Nursery. If you’re at either event, stop by, say hello, and put some familiar faces to those emails!
For now, enjoy this photo dump of our Pizzo team out in the wild, doing what they do best: talking with all of you, making connections, and, of course... golfing! 🙂

It’s Monday, so you know what that means, it’s Plant of the Week with Katee Johnson, our Inside Sales Representative!

This week, we’re introducing Nodding Onion (Allium cernuum)! This smaller perennial reaches about 18 inches tall and produces delicate pink-to-white flowers that nod downward when in bloom, giving the plant its fun name.

Don’t let its delicate appearance fool you! Nodding Onion can thrive in hot, sunny spots, and its flowers are a favorite among bees and other pollinators. Plus, it’s another great native option that tends to be left alone by rabbits and deer. Interested in adding Nodding Onion to your next project? Check out the link below. 🙂
