What is a UL 508A Control Panel — and why does it matter?

A UL 508A industrial control panel is built to nationally recognized safety standards for industrial electrical control systems. These panels are commonly used in manufacturing, pumping systems, refrigeration, automation, HVAC, material handling, and industrial process control.

Why UL 508A matters:

✔ Improved electrical safety
✔ Proper short-circuit current ratings (SCCR)
✔ Compliance with NEC requirements
✔ Easier inspections and approvals
✔ Increased reliability and serviceability
✔ Greater confidence for owners, engineers, and inspectors

At North Brunswick Electrical Contractors, Inc., we design and build custom industrial control solutions focused on safety, reliability, and long-term performance for commercial and industrial applications.

Whether your project involves pumps, motors, process equipment, automation, or facility controls, selecting a properly designed control panel is critical.

⚠️ Is Your Electrical Panel Trying to Warn You?

Many dangerous electrical problems give warning signs before a major failure occurs. Ignoring them could lead to equipment damage, power outages, or even electrical fires.

Here are 5 warning signs your electrical panel may be dangerous:

⚡ Buzzing or crackling sounds
⚡ Breakers that trip frequently
⚡ Burning smells or scorch marks
⚡ Warm or hot breakers
⚡ Fuse or old outdated electrical panels

If you notice any of these signs in your home or business, don’t ignore them. Early detection can prevent costly and dangerous electrical failures.

At North Brunswick Electrical Contractors, Inc., we provide professional electrical troubleshooting, inspections, repairs, and panel upgrades throughout southeastern North Carolina.

Zinsco Power Panels are a Real Fire Risk

Most homeowners assume their electrical panel is functioning safely, but with Zinsco panels, that assumption can be dangerously wrong.

We see too many of these panels despite their being made obsolete 40 years ago. The conditions we recently found are common and represent a serious hazard to both property and personnel.

Field Evidence: What We Found
-Severe Bus Bar Damage
-Melting and charring at breaker connection points
-Evidence of sustained overheating and arcing
-Carbonized insulation and metallic residue

Conclusion: These conditions indicate progressive failure caused by high-resistance connections.

Critical Insight: A fused connection can prevent the breaker from tripping during an overload or short circuit.

Zinsco panels suffer from documented design defects, not just aging components.

Still Working Does Not Mean Safe
-Zinsco panels often remain in service while deteriorating internally.

A panel that cannot reliably shut off power is not a safety device; it is a liability.

Hidden Danger After Pool Equipment Replacement

A simple pool pump replacement can leave behind a serious—and often invisible—hazard: a missing bonding wire.

When equipment is replaced, bonding connections are frequently overlooked or disconnected due to lost, missing, or fittings that are not reusable due to excessive corrosion. The system may still “work,” but that doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Bonding is critical because it keeps all metal components at the same electrical potential. Without it, dangerous voltage differences can occur—putting swimmers at risk.

👉 In fact, industry inspections have found that many pools operate without proper bonding, often unnoticed for years.

✅ What to do:
• Always inspect bonding after any pool equipment replacement
• Never assume a new motor was installed correctly
• Have a qualified electrician verify your system

Your pool may look fine—but what you can’t see could be dangerous.

Pool Season Is Coming… But Is Your Pool SAFE?⚡

As temperatures rise, pools across southeastern North Carolina are about to see a lot more use. But while most homeowners focus on cleaning and water chemistry, there’s one critical safety system that often gets overlooked: electrical bonding.

Electrical bonding or pool bonding connects all metal components—pumps, ladders, handrails, lighting, and even the water itself—into one continuous system. This ensures everything stays at the same electrical potential, reducing the risk of dangerous shock hazards.

⚠️ The reality? Over time, bonding systems can deteriorate—especially in coastal environments like ours. Corrosion, loose connections, and broken bonding wires are common issues we find during inspections.

When bonding fails, small stray voltages can create “step or touch potential hazards” and those can turn deadly under the right conditions.

🔎 Why annual inspections matter:

* Identify hidden corrosion (especially underground or in concrete)
* Verify continuity of the bonding grid
* Ensure all required components are properly connected
* Protect swimmers, guests, and liability exposure

At NBEC, we routinely find bonding deficiencies—even in newer pools. The good news? Most issues can be identified and corrected before they become dangerous.

✔️ Don’t assume your pool is safe—verify it.

📞 If you manage properties, HOAs, or own a pool—now is the time to schedule an inspection before peak season hits.

⚠️ Hidden Electrical Fire Hazard ⚠️

This photo illustrates a condition we are finding more frequently than you might think. Splices outside a junction box (hidden inside the wall) present a serious fire hazard.

If someone offers to “just add an outlet” while mounting your TV — stop them. Call us instead for peace of mind and a job done the correct way! Shortcuts behind the wall, like this one, can become disasters later.

Intermittent power issues—lights flickering, outlets cutting in and out, breakers tripping—should never be ignored.

Many of these problems are caused by loose electrical connections, which create resistance, heat, and arcing. Over time, that heat can damage wiring, melt insulation, like seen here. These faults, given time can ignite surrounding materials, leading to a fire.

What seems like a “minor nuisance” today can become a major emergency tomorrow. Electrical systems rarely fail to give warnings beforehand. Pay attention to the warning signs and call us today. Your safety—and your property—are worth it. www.nbec-us.com
