We've been piloting a structured decision tracking system on our current estate project.

Not just what was decided, but why, who was involved, and what alternatives were on the table before that decision got made.

It sounds like a small thing until you're eight months into a project and someone asks why a change was made back in March and the honest answer used to be "someone probably remembers."

Decision history that used to live scattered across email threads, texts, and memory now lives somewhere retrievable.

One place, one record, one version of what actually happened and why.

We're still refining the system. It's already proven useful enough that we don't want to go back to the old way.

Working through exterior material selection for a ridge site in the foothills.

The question isn't which materials look most impressive on a spec sheet.

It's which ones will require the least intervention over the next twenty years while still looking intentional.

Local fieldstone. Board-and-batten in a dark stain. Standing-seam metal. None of it is novel. All of it is right.

We ask clients to think about a material at fifteen years, not at move-in. How does it age? What will it actually require?

A white oak floor weathers toward something more beautiful over time.

Not every option does
and that difference is worth getting right before anything gets installed.

There's a shift happening in home design across Western NC, and it's worth paying attention to.

For a long time, this region swung between two extremes: the mountain lodge look, or an imported glass-and-steel modernism that never quite felt like it belonged here.

What we're seeing now is something different, call it vernacular modernism.

Homes rooted in the regional building tradition, but thinking clearly and contemporarily about space, light, and material.

Clients coming in from larger markets are often surprised by the level of design ex*****on available in this region.

The talent base here runs deeper than it looks from the outside.

Not a lodge. Not an imported box. Something that actually looks like it belongs here.
