100+ MPH WINDS IN INDIANA AS SEVERE STORMS HEAD TOWARD OHIO

We continue to closely watch an impressive line of severe thunderstorms moving across northern Indiana and toward Ohio this afternoon. National Weather Service warnings with portions of this line have indicated winds in excess of 100 MPH, along with Tornado Warnings.

To be clear, this does NOT mean we expect 100 MPH winds in Ohio. The storms will continue to evolve as they move east, and their eventual strength in Ohio remains something we will have to watch closely. However, the organization and intensity of this storm complex in Indiana is certainly impressive and deserves our attention.

This is the second round of storms we have been watching for today, with some of the leading activity now approaching western Ohio and the Miami Valley.

For clarity, we have turned OFF all watches and warnings on this radar image so you can more easily see the structure and location of the storms. This does not mean there are no active watches or warnings.

As we mentioned earlier this morning, today would be a day where “nowcasting” becomes especially important. What happens upstream in Indiana will help determine what portions of Ohio experience later this afternoon.

We will continue watching the strength, organization and track of these storms as they approach Ohio. Those across western Ohio, especially northwest Ohio, west central Ohio and the Miami Valley, should continue to keep an eye on the weather and have a reliable way to receive warnings.

*** BREAKING: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for All Counties in the Greater Lima Region until 2 AM Tuesday ***

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been issued for all counties in the Greater Lima Region until 2 AM Tuesday. Additional thunderstorm development is expected and may produce severe weather including damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, large hail of quarter-size or larger, and perhaps an isolated tornado or two.

There is also a flash flood risk as well tonight- DO NOT DRIVE INTO HIGH WATER OR AROUND ROAD CLOSED SIGNS!
