If you don’t know where your septic tank is, now is the time to find it! Your septic tank stays around 50° even in the winter so you can often find it because it will be the first place the snow melts.

The snow may still be too deep but keep an eye out for a round or rectangle bare patch as we warm up.

(Keep in mind, the deeper your septic tank is, the less likely you will find it)

For educational purposes:

The average tanks on a septic system is 1000 to 1500 gallons total. The average American family uses 300 gallons per day of indoor water or 60 gallons per person. If you do the math, after having the septic tanks emptied, you will fill up the tanks fairly quickly. After that, it’s dependent on the field lines to absorb the excess water or the pump to distribute the excess water.

When you have a pumper come out, they are not miracle workers, even though we love to think we are septic system whisperers lol. If a system is showing signs of failing (overfilling), it’s just a matter of time, fairly quickly, before you will have the same problem again.

That being said, sometimes pumping can be a solution, but it would have to be sludge clogging the pump or scum layer blocking the outlet to your field lines. However, it’s mainly a preventative maintenance.
