Never force a breaker to stay on or replace it with a larger one.

The National Electrical Code now requires **surge protective devices (SPDs)** on services supplying dwelling units under **NEC 230.67**.

Why does my outlet stop working when my breaker isn’t tripped? 🤔

This is a surprisingly common homeowner question.

Sometimes the problem isn’t at the breaker at all. You may have a GFCI outlet that has tripped somewhere else on the same circuit.

GFCI protection is commonly used for outlets in areas where they could be exposed to water or moisture — outside, bathrooms, kitchens, laundry areas, garages and other potentially wet locations.

And in newer homes, GFCI protection may be provided by a GFCI circuit breaker instead of an individual GFCI outlet.

So if an outlet suddenly stops working and your breaker looks fine, look around for a GFCI outlet that may need to be reset.

Sometimes the outlet that isn’t working isn’t actually the problem. 😉
