Now is the time to get ready to plant your garden. Is this your first time growing? Is this your hobby? Have you done this before? If you need some guidance, or just need a refresher, here are a few tips:
1. Set your goals. Are you looking for fresh produce? Savings on your grocery bill? Looking to teach your children about gardening?
2. Determine where you will be growing. There is a way to garden in every space, but not all methods can be used. How much experience do you have? How much space do you have? What nutrients are already in your growing medium? How much money are you able to spend on this project?
3. Choose the type of garden your resources and limitations allow.
4. Make a list of what you want to grow. What do you already eat and enjoy? What is easy to grow or what will challenge you for your next level?
5. Research the varieties on your list and then chose what crops fit your goals.
6. Design, plant and maintain your garden.
7. Enjoy your harvest!!
We will be highlighting each step, going into more detail and adding in our own experiences. We will be setting up a couple of different examples of gardens at our nursery and posting pictures as well. A great place to start your research is at the following UF IFAS site
