Pro Guitar Repair - What’s On The Bench?
It’s Tele Tuesday….Sorta!

This made in Indonesia G&L ASAT Classic had a couple of loose fret ends and the high E string was getting caught under them!

The fretboard had a 10” radius so I used a 7.5 radius caul in my fret press along with CA glue w/ accelerator to glue them down.

The nut slots were much too deep, so I re-profiled the nut so that it looks, sounds and most importantly feels good! The neck pickup is a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat P-90 sized humbucker.

Let’s make an Esquire!

My customer Noel Ebner never fails to bring me interesting projects! Here he supplied an MJT reliced body, Allparts Fender Licensed neck, Gotoh aged tuners, unknown brand tapped pickup (wired for 6.62k output, aged bridge & hardware, etc.

The most unusual aspect is the 4-way switch, which is wired as follows: position #1 -pickup with just volume, #2 - vol. w/ tone, #3 vol. & tone w/ .01 tone cap, #4 vol. & tone w/ .0047 for a cocked wah tone.

The neck required a .025 degree shim for best string height and I made a new bone nut w/ full setup. This is one vibey guitar!

Changing string gauge? You need a setup!

When changing the string gauge or tuning of a trem equipped guitar it will need a setup, because the bridge height, truss rod and intonation can all change!

This MIM EVH Wolfgang had noticeable fret buzz and was going from .010-.046 down 1/2 step to .09-.042 down 1/2 step. Trem springs needed to be loosened, truss rod loosened and intonation adjusted.

It is now setup for this tuning and string gauge for best playability and minimal fret buzz!

Deep Talkin’ bass flat wounds!

This MIK Brian Moore desperately needed a setup and my customer wanted to try flatwounds, so I picked out a set of LaBella Deep Talkin’ flatwounds of the same gauge to keep the string tension as close as possible.

What a great neck this bass has, it plays like a dream!
