Another chance of snow coming.

Thursday evening into Friday will feature a weak winter system which will bring us light snow accumulations and patchy freezing drizzle. System begins as light snow in the UP overnight tonight into Thursday morning with an inch or two possible further north. As this system tracks down into the lower peninsula, freezing drizzle may mix in with light snow throughout Thursday.

As temperatures drop overnight Thursday into Friday, a quick burst of snow will occur for the lower peninsula. By late Friday evening, snow should be wrapping up.

When all is said and done, a widespread 1-3" of snow should be expected with isolated areas potentially reaching 4". This is more likely for areas further north and west along or close to Lake Michigan.

Expect there to be travel impacts Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.

We might get some snow tomorrow!

We might get some snow tomorrow!

Yes, this is our last call snowfall forecast for the incoming winter storm that will meander through the southern half of the Lower Peninsula starting very late tonight, and lasting through early Monday morning. That 30 hour period will be from late January 24th through early January 26th, 2026.

Truthfully, there's not much change. We moved each of the zones north a smidge, primarily to make room for the addition to the 6-11" category for southern Monroe county. The irony here is this exclusive region of the state has been neglected when it comes to seasonal snowfall so far, and now it's the hotspot for snow on Sunday. To give you all an illustration of the forecast for this event, think of a six-sided die. Five of the six sides say "4-7" expected across the areas labeled". The one side that is labeled differently says "s**e, we are shifting this system 20 miles south". As this system moves into Illinois and Indiana later today, we will get some hints at what exactly will be rolled. For those who have been paying attention to our briefings, we haven't shifted north much, but rather maintained the current forecast zones due to confidence. If we get that 1-in-6 chance of a 20 mile shift south, expect the low end of the totals listed in your forecast zone.

In a meteorological sense, dry air will be present to start, and some wind on Sunday will blow snow around, but impressive 18:1-22:1 snowfall-to-liquid equivalent ratios are in play by midday Sunday. That means, once it starts snowing, the chances it accumulates quickly are heightened. With dendrites forming the best between temps of 0-10°F, and temperatures being around that range almost all day Sunday, especially as you go a couple hundred feet above the ground, this could result in a respectable accumulation event along and south of I-94 in southeastern Michigan.

Everything is ultimately probability based. Best odds are always the totals shown for your area, but there's always a slim chance nature plays its own game. Enjoy the snow, and the show!

Michigan, this is your final call for our winter storm impacting the entire state starting today, as early as 2 pm EST, and lasting through Sunday at 6 pm EST, November 29th, & 30th, 2025.

There are a few updates to pass along, primarily in the way of embedded lake effect snow. Lake effect bands will start inside of our system snow, and continue after the system moves out around 6 pm EST on Sunday. This is relatively NEW information that was briefly mentioned in our second call. All snowfall ranges remain the same. Full updates:

- 7-13" nudges slightly northeast and east to encompass more of the winter storm warnings and favorable dendritic growth/heavier snowfall rates
- 7-13" is added to the Alpena and Drummond Island area for west-moving lake enhanced snow embedded within the system
- 4-8" was expanded to encompass the entire Lower Peninsula minus parts of Macomb, Wayne, and Monroe, which were the only areas that decreased in yesterday's outlook from (at the time) 4-7" to 2-5"
- The Upper Peninsula got a makeover. The combination of multiple wind shifts and favorable convergence/water-to-air temperature changes denotes the continuation of one or more long bands of lake effect snow that will vary in location throughout the storm, which will then blow off to the southeast as the winds lock in to out of the northwest late Sunday. Parts of the western UP have seen an upgrade from 1-3"/2-5", to 7-13", but we will be honest... this is our most uncertain forecast area for this storm given multiple moving factors. Play it safe, and lean towards the 7" side of the 7-13" if you're in this new zone for the western UP. Most of this snow is likely to fall starting Sunday afternoon, and continue into Monday morning.

There will be a little wind out there today, but most snow will just fall in place without blowing around. Travel impacts will be major late Saturday night into Sunday morning, especially across SW Michigan where a foot is possible in a few spots. Stick with us here at Michigan Storm Chasers for updates throughout the storm.
