Rapidan Service Authority is excited at the prospect of taking over billing for our sewer services in Gordonsville. The Town of Gordonsville has been an RSA customer for over 40 years, and has always billed their customers directly. The Town has asked RSA to take over billing responsibilities, and we're looking forward to welcoming new customers.

We are eager to provide the same level of reliability and professionalism in billing as we do in our sewer services, all while being able to lower rates for our Gordonsville customers.

As a result of recent rain, drought conditions in our area have somewhat improved, but we are still in a drought warning. In accordance, the County of Orange, Virginia - Local Government, the Rapidan Service Authority, the Town of Orange, Virginia, and the Town of Gordonsville are encouraging residents to continue avoiding water waste.

For this week's tip, we want to remind residents that water conservation within a home is only effective if there are no leaks leading to the home.

To check for hidden leaks:
1️⃣ Turn off all indoor and outdoor faucets and water-using appliances.
2️⃣ Wait about 15 minutes.
3️⃣ Check your meter. If it continues to run or turn, you may have a leak between your house and the meter.
⚠️ If you discover such a leak, contact a plumber for assistance.

RSA, the County of Orange, Virginia - Local Government, the Town of Gordonsville, and the Town of Orange, Virginia are advising residents that drought conditions in our area are continuing to worsen. With that in mind, we are strongly encouraging good water conservation practices, and are continuing our weekly series of simple ways to help.

This week, we’re checking for “silent” toilet leaks, which can waste a surprising amount of water while often escaping detection. To see if your toilet needs an adjustment or repair, drop some food coloring in the upper tank. If that color finds its way into the bowl after a few minutes (without flushing), you’ve likely got a slow leak. Usually caused by a flapper problem, the good news is it’s a repair most homeowners can make on their own (maybe with a little online research). Once discovered, make the necessary adjustments or repairs to save water.

Happy Rain Day! Did you know?

Virginia gets about 44'' of rain a year on average, with the wettest months being late spring through early fall. Even though it rains the most in the summer, the colder months are also crucial for replenishing drinking water, as the rain in those months doesn't evaporate as quickly, and more of it makes its way to getting stored as groundwater — one Virginia's main water sources.

🌎 Happy World Conservation Day!

Did you know?

One of the United States' earliest and proudest water conservation success stories was the establishment of the Occoquan Policy. Following growing water quality concerns in the 1960s, Virginia adopted the policy to help protect and restore the Occoquan watershed. Today, the Occoquan Reservoir helps provide drinking water to more than 2 million residents.

In fact, many of America's rivers are significantly cleaner today than they were in the mid-20th century thanks to conservation efforts, improved wastewater treatment, and watershed protection.

Despite some beneficial rain, Orange County remains in a drought warning - along with most of Virginia. With that in mind, we're continuing the weekly series of Water Conservation Tips in partnership with Rapidan Service Authority, the Town of Gordonsville, and the Town of Orange, Virginia.
