Tiptop Plumbing Services, Inc. in Loganville Georgia 30052 continues to offer many plumbing services such as plumbing repairs and remodeling.
We are constantly trying to share bits of information that we fill might help you our loyal customers and potential customers.
Which brings us to today's message. If you have notice the item in the photo attached you will notice that this a fairly inexpensive battery operated water alarm. We have suggested to and have installed many of these little devices for our customers. Tiptop Plumbing Services, Inc. is always trying to help you to save money and help you understand how your plumbing works and potential problems that can arise. We typically recommend installing one of these by your tank type water heaters whether it be in a closet in the garage or the basement or even the crawlspace. Seeing how most people don't really check their water heater that often this little device could sure save some headaches cause by potential water damage cause by a leaking water heater. We also suggest maybe installing it on top of your sewer ejection pump if you don't have an internal alarm already inside the basin. We have had several customers that we have told or have installed one that the alarm has gone off and warned them something had gone wrong. I'm sure there are many types but this is the one we get from our local Home Depot. Here is the link-

If you have one of these tanks called a thermal expansion tank, it might be worth taking a moment to make sure there are no signs of rust. This one was just starting to leak and was caught just in time. After further inspection and checking the water pressure, the pressure was over 120 psi.(50 psi is recommended and the max by code is 80 psi.). Also the expansion tanks max working pressure capacity is 80psi..The Pressure Reducing Valve and Thermal Expansion tank were both replaced and all is working properly now @ 50 psi.

This is an inexpensive leak detection device that runs around $10 for the alarm; you will also need a 9volt battery. I have been suggesting to customers to buy and put these in places of potential leaks that can cause damage, especially at the base of a water heater or on the lid of a sewage ejector pump if it does not contain an internal alarm.

I know it's not pretty but this is what happened when a homeowner tried to remove their shower cartridge. This is typically not that difficult to do for the do-it-yourselfer but if it seems like something is not quite right, it's time to call a plumber!

Not all the plumbing work we do is bath remodels. This old drinking fountain lasted about 30 years before it had to be replace. It was at St. Timothy UMC in Stone Mountain,GA. Now all it needs is a little paint and patch on the wall and then maybe this one will last as long!
